Indian Curry/Thay Curry-whats the difference?

swissgirl39
By swissgirl39

While having a delicious Curry for dinner(no clue if it was Indian or Thai, but it was yummie!),came this question in my mind.

Hey QLers, can you help me in this?Whats the difference between them and which one do you like more?

in gravies we include cashewnuts, almonds, all the above ingredients you have mentioned, in Mughlai fried onions are used for taste and colour

We do not have curries except few. Now the question is why those gravies are called as curries.

Indian curry, have roasted spices the ingredients include chiles, cardamom, fenugreek, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, allspice, bay and ginger

Thai curries have highlight use of fresh chiles and might include onions, garlic, galangal, coconut, shrimp paste, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, cilantro and cloves while ranging from green to red to brownish-red. Typically, Thai curries are very hot.

One of the main differences in execution between Thai and Indian curries is the use of coconut milk in Thailand as both a base and a foil for the intense heat (capsicum level) of the finished curry.

we have one dish know as Dahi ki kaddi (youghurt curry) where bajiyas(fritters) are fried and dipped in the curry

Curry's main ingredient is fresh coconut or coconut milk.

most of the Indian cuisine consists of gravies

dont understand from why this word curry is used. It is derived from word kari in Chennai. Why do we refer to all Indian cooking as curries???

Thai curry is the best, I usually make the green or red, the green with chicken and red with fish or prawns.. The indian I think is the yellow curry, not green. But u need to get the Thai ingredients from an Asian store, I just moved here so I dont know a store yet. Does anyone know where there is a good store for asian groceries? specially the Thai?

Thai Curry can be can be made of Red, Green or Massaman Curry - usually in Coconut milk.

Red Curry is usually more spicy than green and Massaman Curry.

Masaman curry is also used in the Cambodian Dish Amoc which contains Sweet potatoes, with Fish or Chicken.

I love indian curry but nothing is better than Thai Curry :)
