JAI HO, CONGRATS INDIA

this post is only for 2 years.
Xceptional...US still is the biggest contributor to the UN budget. What is the use of becoming a part of something which will be irrelevant unless they overhaul their complete structure. To me UN is just another bashing forum for a select few...just like QL (tongue firmly in cheek ;) ).
Sooner or Later.. India will be the sixth one @ UN Security Council.. inshaAllah !!
India was expecting an easy win since Kazakhstan pulled out from the race earlier this year and there was no challenge from the asian region. Was it India's ultimate target? I don't think so.Nonetheless, aiming for the permanent seat in the expanded UN Security Council, India observed that its five permanent members were not as enthusiastic as developing nations on reforms. However,Security Council reform will be on the agenda when US President visits India in November. We need to wait and see how it goes.
On the world stage , the UK and France are big players. They may be small in size, but exert great influence.
Having said that, I think the permamnenet membership and veto powers should be done away with.
Agree that UN needs to make itself more relevant to the current global scenario.
The security council is a bunch of jokers. Just imagine countries like the the uk and france who are like dwarfs in todays world having permanent seats at that table while more deseving countries like Brazil, India and indonesia not having any representation. It seems more like a gang of thieves ( I mean the security council). Just imagine a security council with countries like china who dont even allow the basic freedoms to their own people. If i may ask who gave the permanent five memebers the right to be above the others
they are anyway worthless. simply draining the taxpayers money....
Too much power in the hands of the few... Time to do away with the UN..
Keep UNICEF and a few aid agency, but the "boys club" needs to be abolished.
then how can the bigdog keep it as his spokesperson Brit
What a load of hogwash. India doesn't want to reform the UN, it wants to become a permanent member.
It's about time the permanent member veto was abolished and the UN started acting like a democratic boy with equality for all. A true League of Nations.
