I'll be in Doha in 85 1/2 hours

I'll post the details of my flight and arrival time in case anyone wants to meet me at the airport. I could use all the help I can get until I regain my bearings in this new land. Btw- How do I get to baggage claim and ground transportation, are the signs in english, do you use a standard clock there?

The Father in law of Rod Blagojevich had the other 98%. I didn't know they were still around anywhere. I never liked them because people would play the worst songs on them and everyone had to listen. Like Mac Davis, or Linda Ronstadt

After listening to the best jukebox in the world, obviously because we are in the forefront of world music, I am here to answer your questions; without any BS involved.

Also, you need to have some Qatari currencies to pay for taxi fares or you know the conversion: Q3.65:$1.00

You need to get your groceries as all fastfood and restaurants are open after 6:30PM...RAMADAN

No bars or clubs open...so buy your alcoholic drink at DUTY FREE

Postpone your flight a little, they are building a new airport for your arrival where the baggage can be claimed, signs are in English, standard clocks are used, sun shines brightly, birds chirp melodiously and a cool gentle breeze blows through your hair.. (Ok scratch the breeze part for you), a heavenly place! Let it finish and then come.

FlyingAce, true. But MP, if you are in FC then you will arrive in a little bus all by yourself. Then at least you will be ahead of your own plane's queue. As soon as you can, get an e-gate card, no queue!

Manna Pro... you wont have to do anything until you come out of the airport. (cattle dogs will be there)

as you come out of the terminal look at your right, you will find cabs waiting in a Que, just go to the first cab in the Que and tell them your address, they will drop you to your place.

for any further help, you can call Khanan anytime :P

Qatar isn't the desert city you think it is.

- land and get into the bus thats gona take you to the arrivals dept.

- que for atleast 30-45mins until you reach the counter. Present your passport and pay for a visa on arrival with your credit card.

- follow the signs to the baggage area. Spot the line which shows your flight number on it and wait for your bags to come. Grab a cart in the mean while...usually takes sometime.

- Walk out towards the exit. You might have to scan your baggage one last time through customs.

- walk out to the meeting point. You will see lines of hotel kiosk on your right. There is a qtel kiosk on the other side of the glass wall. Go there with your passport and apply for a pre-paid sim card.

- Walk out the exit and grab a taxi...avoid the private taxi guys that are going to hustle you for a ride. Be prepared to pay QR 50-100. Make sure you take some Qatar currency from the US before you come here.

It's a breeze man!

I just spent 3 months in the most humid jungle on the equator, and I have a Condo in Las Vegas, so I know about oppresive heat- I actually like it. My x wife has Lupus though and she can't tolerate it, hopefully that in itself will keeping from getting on a plane and crashing my party there.

Goodluck! on you arrival to Doha Manna Pro,don't worry the airport is very well organized and not crowded, you will not have difficulty of finding where to go...if nobody will pick you up,there's a lot of taxi to take you to your hotel/apartment.. just expect the scorching temperatures of Doha specially if you will arrive here in daylight time..

I tried flying out of Boston once, to London, with my British passport......only to be quizzed about why I was going there!

Ex-Marine guard then saw Arabic stamps in my passport but didn't have a clue where in the world these counties were.

Ha ha. The airport is pretty small and all the signs are in English. You will be picked up by a passenger bus at the aircraft and taken to arrivals/immigration. Present your documents and if you don't have a visa, pay (credit card) for a tourist visa. Walk forward a few steps into baggage claim and grab a guy in a grey suit, he's a porter. Pay 15 QR (there's an ATM in the arrivals hall) and he will pick up all your bags and take them through customs/security. Walk a few more steps and you are in the meet and greet hall. Your porter can take your bags right to a taxi if you are not being met. Your taxi should cost around 50-80 QR. First thing you will go to Carrefour or Lulu and buy a phone and a SIM card (take your passport) if your employer doesn't provide one. The clocks are all standard but Doha is NOT on Daylight Savings Time - you WANT that sun to set early!
