Dermatology clinic shut for flouting rules
DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has closed down a recently-opened dermatology clinic in Doha, run by a high-profile dermatologist, for serious violation of health regulations.
The clinic could face permanent closure and the woman physician involved in the offence — a GCC national — could be blacklisted in Qatar, a senior official of the Medical Licensing Department at SCH told this newspaper yesterday.
“We ordered immediate closure of the facility having found that four unlicenced medical staff were performing various kinds of treatment, when the doctor was away in her own country,” said
the official.
The clinic was opened less than a month ago, after obtaining a licence from the SCH.
“She is a well-known dermatologist and she had a licence to operate in Qatar. But she cared little about Qatari rules and we had warned her several times on this issue,” said the official.
He said the physician had been shuttling between Qatar and her own country, while the clinic remained open all the time. The authorities grew suspicious as they found the facility functioning even in the absence of the
licenced physician.
“We had a strong suspicion about the activities in the clinic which was confirmed during inspections. Our inspectors found four medical staff working there and none of them had a licence. They were undertaking laser treatment and medical examinations while the physician was absent,” said the official.
The dermatologist involved in the incident is currently not in Qatar, but the Medical Licensing Department is planning strong action against her.
“This is a very serious offence and we want to convey a message to all health practitioners who don’t not take the Qatari law seriously. The case will be referred to the Permanent Licensing Committee at SCH for further action,” said the official.
He said the physician would be banned from practising in Qatar and could be blacklisted.
The Medical Licensing Department, of late, has come across an increasing number of violations after it intensified monitoring of all private healthcare facilities and practitioners in the country.
THE PENINSULA
that is the whole point, they have to display the licenses of all licenses practitioners in the clinic at the reception
offo... no one cud recognize it?? so is it not such a famous one??
Oryx, i have no clue about the name of the clinic...Has anyone idea of it??
what guarantee is that the one who is checking you has his license displayed?
when you go to most clinics in Qatar, you should see the licenses of licensed practitioners in that specific clinic including doctors and nurses displayed at the reception
So you just need to make sure that you are treated by one of the practitioners whose license is on display
it is closed for the time being and hopefully will be closed for good.
Now beaware of the other clinics who do the same!
Yes Oryx it is scary. Well she is a national of GGC acording to the article. So someone out there must know who it it.
But which clinic I really think we should know this is so scary! Using laser treatment without being qualified!!!
Oh! many thanks to warn us in advance...
