Me and my wife were just getting into car after shopping in a Hyper Market parking lot... all of sudden a car came and horned to call me.. it carried Oman registration number on it and was with a family of a lady and two kids. I thought the driver of the car need some guidence to roads of Doha, but to my surprise he started telling that he n his family came to Doha as tourist and lost their valet consisting of driving licence, ATM cards in a mall. They approached police and police gave them a complaint acknowledgement which he showed me... of course it was in Arabic i could not understand. he said that his kids are hungry and he also need some money to travel upto the border check post, so that he can get some help from border police.. i gave him QR 100 .. thats what i could find in my valet apart from change notes... i think i was hit sentimentally... any QLites had similar experinces?????

We have a regular lady who always comes to our office asking for money. She wears an abaya, she never smiles but just asks for money.. quite rude actually. Very to say the least. No, I don't feel sad for her. She just has to stop asking for money and not depend anymore on her fellow arab people.. oh and btw, her little boy dresses well. Which I find weird for people who asks for money.

Sorry to hear you got scammed, some saudi guy in his car, tried to skank some money out of me to get back to saudi. Was in bahrain as I was walking along road, said sorry and kept walking. Its not my problem if hes spent all his money on prostitutes and beer.

As with all these things if its too good to be true it is!

Like beggars who dont except food off you, and only want money. Same thing in many countries where people say can i borrow money to make phone call, if you say ill come make call for you, they run away usually lol!!

Karan,

Don't worry about what u did earlier but why you didn't catch them and ask them about the truth when you knew that's the same family and obviously involved in cheating? Its your duty man. Atleast you could save other gullible innocents like you. We must discourage people like these. Quite often cases like these are fraud. Don't ever believe easily.

LOL as much as i admire what you did coz you felt sorry for the guy and his kids, i must say you are one of the many gullible folks around. But please next time dont believe such cock and bull stories.

You're intention to those people was trying to help them, because they asked for help. Weither they're true or they're thieves, you followed your heart. But if they're bad people then they won't runaway from God's punishment; because this is called stealing. As for you, God will recompense you for what you've done.

:) you're such a good person...i salute U!

but if i can encounter same thing, i will not give money even 1 or 10 riyal.

i remember a month ago, one old man asking for help. he needs money for the operation of he's son. he has documents and photos. my assistant told me to give even small amount. but i told the old man there are a lot of foundations or organizations here in Qatar who could help him. Although i pity him...still im firm with my decision not to give.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The poor person is not the one who goes round to the people and begs, but the poor is that who has not enough to satisfy his needs and whose condition is not known to others that others may give him something in charity, and who does not beg of people,”

You are very good person

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

"Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or an oppressed,"

A man said, "O Allah's Apostle! I will help him if he is oppressed, but if he is an oppressor, how shall I help him?" The Prophet said, "By preventing him from oppressing (others), for that is how to help him."

I visited oman for 1 day and to be honest the omanis are probably one of the best arab race in the gulf region or atleast the most down to earth. The govt. takes care of every omani and makes sure that they work and know the value of working hard and earning money. Omanis work as taxi drivers, at the counters in Lulus in Oman and other stores and they are very friendly and kind people in general. May be this guy was really in trouble, who knows?

Either way whatever u did, weather he wanted money from u or he was actually in need. U did a good thing.

Well, for those who believe in God, we try to avoid being scammed but if in doubt, we give anyway. At the end of the day, everything is in God's hands and God will repay - blessings on honest and good people, not so good for cheaters and liars. Even if the latter appear to be getting away with things, they ultimately will not.

they might have been frauds but i'd like to think you were right...think of it this way, if this happens to you 10 times and out of those 10 times 9 were frauds, then you would have been an indispensable help to one very unlucky family :)

Modern day begging... but good that you gave them the benefit of doubt. It is possible that they lost everything. If I were you, I'd have shown that police form to a Qatari or someone who can read Arabic to double check.. but that's just me...

Oh.. and king007's idea is good! Pretend you have a friend in the police dept and that you can help. Then see if he runs away. If not, then well.. your benefit of doubt is well placed.

You could have offered them to help by taking them to Police, next time u meet such people tell them u know someone in Qatar Police who can help them, they will run away....

Fraudsters presenting themselves as needy people, such people should be immediately reported to Police.

I had the same experience a few years ago, and do frequently hear the same from my friends too. Be not fooled. You can do sincerely help (.. for your school, locality, your elderly/needy teachers in your own countries etc, etc ).

What you have done is not help, but you have been fooled into loosing your money.
