You cannot teach experience, both of you agree, the life you live, the life you love is virtually carefree, no doubt. However, at what cost: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Financially secure, the work is rewarding, yes, is it ever enough? Do you never waken in the wee small hours and have that little doubt about the future. Remember; keep a coin to pay the Ferryman ;>)
Well I could say that this is not my home but I love living here than live in my country.I just love living away from home and be independent. As what vegas said: I have learned so much here.
Very Sage; however, becoming a bit heavy and very philosophical for week-end chatter. While agreeing with your view point on the subjective matter of “good” or “bad” in such things; our expectations, experience and desire are what fashion the way we each seek our destiny. Blame the western ideal of materialism and commend the fatalistic acceptance of “ones lot” of my eastern colleagues. Rightly or wrongly, I am making a judgment that the person you are referring to has eastern cultural heritage or background. Not being judgmental and each to their own way I feel there is lack of imagination if someone can accept ad-infinitum the same routine either in their own life or their surroundings. I will not refer to the other points in your interesting discourse as we will be accused of hijacking The Thread. As the “new kid on the block” I have to watch my Ps & Qs. Could always start a new thread if others want to contribute!!!!!!
..your home where your heart is.. it can be different at different stage of your life.. nothing wrong with that...but it's up to the person.. there is no "Good" or "Bad" in such things.. I know a person who hasn't changed his appartments for 17 years.. not only appartment, he hasn't changed a furniture in this appartment.. in 17 years, he even hasn't moved a couch from one place to another.. it's up to him.. whatever makes him happy.. but after all he also will have only memories.. but.. without exaggerations of a wonderful life...
..we all have the same roots: our Earth, which becomes smaller and smaller, year by year..
your personal root is in your child.. your base is your spirit and your heart..
The life of a Gypsy is the life of a wanderer; no roots to hold us down, and at the end. What? Only the memories and the exaggerations of a wonderful life, and the blanks that dementia hold.
Just arrived in Qatar and the jury is still out on the ..... "and Qatar is not too bad after all".. We will see.
Qatar will always have a good place in me. I have met wonderful people, got my freedom here & I'm as happy as devils celebrating halloween..I'd like to thank the people who have made my life wonderful here. I cant thank you enough..:)
I only socialise with one other Brit, and I don't see him that often. All of my friends come from different countries that one day I would love to visit. I love the culture mix, and I love learning about other parts of the world. I especially like eating food from different regions. But then I am a fat barsteward ;)
But considering there's not a whole lot to uncover as far as Qatar's history and mysteries go, its not surprising we learn more about other cultures than Qatar culture itself.
And I love the diverse lifestyles here! Since coming to Qatar I have just a very few friends from Sri Lanka and so many from other countries, that I've truly learned so much from them of different cultures and traditions. And I must say for me these lessons and memories are most precious!
I learned that learning is a never ending process.
I learned that Doha is a small place :( but it never stopped me to have fun and appreciate people/things that i have. For now, I'm just happy being here. :))

I would definitely do it again... why not? I and love gypsy life..and Qatar is not too bad after all..
Agreed, you can't teach experience; is that why be became Expats? Would you do it all again, given the chance? I doubt it very much.
Yip! every day is a school day.
..days and nights i am scrubbing my kitchen's floor on my knees, and all weekends I spend washing and ironing...

And such is the life of an Expat :O)
