I cried on my way back to work!

bibo
By bibo

So here I am, going back to work after driving my son home, driving at the left lane at speed limit (80 KPH), no cars behind me, in a two lanes road.
All of a sudden, a black Cayenne surged at my back, the driver wearing a white thob, with a lady next to him...
the car was excessively fast, my right was totally blocked with a truck and 3 cars going slow and though I tried but couldn't clear the way for him as fast as he wanted me to.
The driver didn't slow down and I saw him approaching me at the speed of light... till the point I couldn't see the front of his car anymore(it was right behind me)... I kept asking him to slow down with my hand, he could easily see that there is no way for me to move out of the way.
I was horrified, I am pregnant and a month ago a truck bumped me from the back because it failed to stop at a red light, the driver was day dreaming!

I finally managed to clear the way and found myself crying like a baby, I even had to pull over to calm down.

Do you reckless drivers realize the terror you are causing to others? do you realize that a pregnant woman might lose her child just because of your reckless speed?

By master_mas• 26 Oct 2009 13:42

wtf.

all u people really think he was reckless driver..?

to me. it's totally her mistake. blockin his way.

she said the road had 2 lanes.

and if u went to a good driving school. they will tell u if u wanna stay under speed limit stay on the right lane.

you think this guy bough his Porsche Cayenne to drive it under speed limit. hell no.

i don't know about u guys. but i really hate slow drivers. and they are increasing fast around Qatar in a scary way.

next time honey. stay behind the trucks. ON THE RIGHT SIDE. and don't go left unless u wanna pass them. and do it quick.

Sorry to hear that. That is one of the worst aspect of life here......and it is very unfortunate.

However my advice to you is, in future when that happens (well is bound to happen....isn't it??!).... just try to control yourself......don't increase your speed........take it easy........calm down....... and just drive as normal, and when clear on your RHS, just pull over gently..... Believe me these idiots won't hit you (not intentially anyway!). They just try to bully you ....That is all.

but what can we do ? if we go to the police nothing is done !

if we take justice in our own hands, we are severly punished !

best thing is wait to get back to you home country and then ENJOY the sweet revenge !!

You should have anticipated someone doing this to you. You should also ask yourself; Why am I driving on the left lane??? If you are there to pass somebody just move over to the right as soon as possible. Also, just move out of the way or push the car in front of you!!!Lesson?? Don't drive on the left hand lane if you cannot handle someone sitting on you rear bumper. Don't be a pest!!!!!

By smoke• 22 Oct 2009 12:25
smoke

Sorry to hear this but seriously people if you dont have way to move then just stay put! there's no need to speed up or panic or cry about it. I've done it many time and to hoots to what they are wearing and what speed they are coming at me from behind. Whats he gonna do? I never move for anyone flashing me when i'm at 300 meters from the round about. If i have no where to move i will drive my car at the legal speed of that road. If YOU want u try to over take me from the wrong lane, be by guest if your in a hurry to die!

Sometimes if there are like 5 cars in front of me at the signal and it turns green the person behind starts to hoot and flash his lights to move, wtf?? Twice i just didnt move he kept flashing lol. Or if there's a little gap to go into the next lane they expect u to move close up to the car in front of you to give them way they will flash you, i say F off you wait there like everyone else! :P

So dont be afraid and dont panic you tend to make more mistakes when u panic and thats what u dont need at such a stage and at that speed. Comprende?

Good Fortune always comes knocking at your door...when you are sh*tting in the toilet!! :)

thank you all for your nice posts..

I am emotionally over it today.

Verisimilitude and Lion King: This incident took place close to West Bay Petrol Station, going from Qatar Sports CLub roundabout towards West Bay. I don't know of any hospital in that direction! Besides, the way he drove was not "an emergency attitude", it was rather a reckless terrorizing attitude..

Verisimilitude, yes you are right, after my first accident this month, I lost the courage of being objective and calm while driving... being pregnant and emotional doesn't help either...

Not that I freak out, I sitll manage to be sane in these situations, but I am always scared!

Perhaps he was on real emergency... nevertheless, this is not the way to drive endangering others.... I have noticed similar incidents on these streets...It is the attitude of the people that make them drive recklessly. No respect to other motorists and no respect to pedestrians...

you make a valid point... a good driver would not judge a person who is driving fast... the reason being that you really don't know where and why that person is trying to get to...

I remember once I was rushing to get my sister to the hospital... I was at the signal just before Hamad Hospital and this guy was driving really slow! I honked at him and flashed my lights so that he would get a move on... but guess what he did... he stopped his engine in the middle of the road for it...

I am not justifying people driving fast in general and I know that even 99% of the people who drive fast in Qatar could be doing it because they are habitual speeders. My point is, good drivers need to be objective enough to not let the speeders 'get to them' while they are driving. Let the cops worry about them... But we are free to vent our collective frustrations on an online forum like this one...

you should look at the front when you are driving...

Although you should give heed to a speeding car at the back

if there is no way you can make way for him

you just have to ignore him until you can give way

and until such time, you have to be objective enuff to block him out of your mind

You are not required to give hand signals to the driver behind you while you are driving on the fast lane...

Granted the guy was being a jerk

but the fact that this episode has reduced you to tears also speaks about your sensitivity to drive in testing situations... of which there would be plenty in Doha

Given that this episode has obviously caused you so much mental strain and anguish, I would advise you to stop driving in Doha until your delivery...

Worse thing about Qatar in my opinion, I can ignore or tolerate everything else but this.

Actually now I think about it a guy try to do this to me tail gating, then tried to under take, I sped up so he couldn't cut back into the fast lane and what happened ?

He ran out of road and smashed into the back of a bus, no lie !!!!. I jumped out as it sounded like he had hit me, luckily he hadn't but I had to laugh as I saw the very sorry state of the front of his land cruiser.

I have to saw this was probably one of the most satisfying moments I have had so far in Qatar

I had a run in the other night. I was exiting a friend's compound on a busy road. I turned left onto the road and a car coming from my right sped up.

I had left plenty of room for him, but he felt aggrieved. He sounded his horn then flashed his lights.

I thought it was over, but he FOLLOWED me, close on my tail flashing his lights and sounding his horn for at least 2-3kms.

I just drove steadily, made no signs forhim to stop. I didn't even look in my rear view mirror.

I don't know whether he wanted me to pull over and argue, or just pull over. I was so scared after he finally gave up, I had to pull over and regain my composure.

the best way to show them that you are giving them space to go ahead keep on switching on and off your indicator light...the crazy drivers will, i hope understand that you are trying move out of their way but when someone tail gates you frankly do not give them space and if they touch your vehical its their fault....

By anonymous• 21 Oct 2009 15:19

I've noticed that Qataris with women next to them usually tend to be more courteous than otherwise.

In such a situation, even if the right lane isn't free, just flash the right indicator lights so that the person knows that you have an intention to give way else it'll drive em nuts.

The guy was probably rushing home to get his brains that he had forgotten to take along with him.
