I am so mad with Patrick Swayze *&^%!

Can I just say that Patrick Swayze is off my Eid card list...I am really disgusted by his behaviour.

I saw pix of him online on the set of his latest movie puffing away on a cigarette in between takes. He has recently successfully been treated for pancreatic cancer yet he chooses to light up.

What a selfish selfish man. He is kicking his loved ones in the face...they were there by his side helping him in his battle against this silent killer. He went into remission so thought he would take up smoking again. Git.

Patrick, put the cig out and wake up.

If he's living in the U.S. he has to pay for his treatment. No one is being bumped out of line because most don't have the insurance or the money for the treatment.

If the philosophy is to live for others. (Thank our parents, our teachers or anyone else who had anything to do with our life then should we not be hypocrites? When you overeat, smoke, take a chance on the highway, stress all the time over others' lives your taking from your own life (and as you say) all that support you?

Don't you think it would be better to focus on your own actions and improve the self, which in turn would have an effect on those around you, instead of putting energy on a celebrity figure? Its just a thought.

My Grandfather was taken out by colon cancer, I didn't want him to stay and suffer. (Man did he suffer) I'm glad he's free of it.

There was an article in today's Peninsula (http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=August2008&file=Local_News200808202352.xml) about the increasing number of people here being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Well, der, I thought. An increase in population is bound to result in an increase in the gross number of people suffering from any condition.

But that's by the by. There was this great line:

"Breast cancer is the number one killer cancer among women all over the world."

Umm, no, Huda N.V.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men. But the leading cause of death from cancer in both men and women is Lung/Bronchus cancer (http://caonline.amcancersoc.org/cgi/content-nw/full/55/1/10/FIG1)

Why is such an easily prevented cancer still so common?

I guess we should ask Mr Swayze.

Gypsy I say sunset because 75% of patients diagnosed with this type of cancer, pancreatic, will die within 12 months.

3 months ago he was only given 1 month to live, doctors are amazed that he has survived this long, but his family believe it's because he's wedding anniversary is coming up so he has willed himself to live long enough to see it. The last I heard he was no longer receiving any form of treatment and his condition is still terminal.

tallg hmmmm that is true, if I put myself in their shoes Id probably feel the same. But having known people who went through chemo etc and the pain they endured, Im trying to put myself in his shoes.

Well I know he's in the States so he has to pay for his medical treatment. But in the UK and Canada it's Universal healthcare, so he's basically a drain on the system. Like Tallg said, he's giving the finger to the taxpayers and the doctors who tried so hard to help him.

I understand where you're coming from it doesn't seem very responsible but do you really think he doesn't care...he's Patrick Swayze, adored by millions, he's lived this incredible life and now he's at the sunset (hmmm) and ready to go out his way.

labda - as explained already, he has basically turned around and stuck to fingers up to all the medical staff who helped him and all his family and friends who supported him. Not to mention all the money spent on treating him.

By mjamille28• 20 Aug 2008 09:46
mjamille28

yeah true,...there are others who need the treatment more than he does,.. coz he doesn't care....

Gypsy/Brit...why? He probably feels he might die soon and if he enjoys his fag and it gives him pleasure in the midst of his pain why not? Clearly the damage has already been done.

I'm actually seriously wondering if diamond does have Patrick Swayze on her Eid card list........:S

I agree with Brit Expat, if he's going to continue smoking he shouldn't be allowed to receive treatment.

If he wanted to die, why did he have the treatment in the first place? he's lucky he caught it in time. Pancreatic cancer can be difficult to diagnose and by the time it is it's often too late.

Maybe he wants to die...and nobody is letting him to...I wouldnt be surprised if he had cannabis inside the cig though...

Well, that's the selfish attitude. did he beat the cancer into remission by himself or did he seek help, both medically and emotionally frfom loved ones. Sorry but he owes it to them to stop smoking altogether.

It's a slap in the face to all who aided his recovery and because he is a public figure it's also a two-fingered salute to all cancer sufferers who are currently in the fight of their lives.

He should be thanking his lucky stars he's still breathing instead of being six feet under.
