Lol,I get ur point brit. guess the japanese would consider any noise as a symptom of an engine that needs refinement.

Not really.. Infinity and Lexus are superb cars, technically advanced, but I find no "fun" in driving them..The cabins are very staid and the engines are silent..

I suppose "soul" is hard to describe, but to me its actually "feeling" the car when you drive it.. Hearing the engine, feeling the brakes and suspension as you go into corners etc..

Japanes cars are just too practical and sanitised.

Not all elitist, what about mini and Beetle etc. etc. And they where mass produced also.

Well, the whole USP of these 'bloodlines' (apart from luxury)is that they are not mass produced and elitist. Messing with that image will be risky and the new eastern owners will defenitely have to consider that.

Britexpat- Was wondering what exactly do you call the 'soul' of a car? :-)

I would say automobile design in the far east revolves more around utility and economy. The brands you mentioned belong to a different class where purpose and economy are concerned.

Whats of big concern now is that all the "old" bloodlines are being boughtout by Eastern companies. Will they still have the "soul". or just become mass produced.

You're right, but the Koreans have a very long way to go..

Personally, I still feel that whilst the Japanese build great cars, they still don't have "soul" like the European cars, especially Alfa, Fiat, Maserati, BMW, Porsche and Mercedes.

Actually i agree and don’t agree,

you know Japanese cars were a big joke in one point of time.

Look now what it turned to be, the best car makers.

See china started the auto business just recently, making those ugly cars :)

i think Korea is going steady with strong steps, not in cars manufacturer only but in all technological aspects
