How very interesting!!! And a warning to you all!
This might serve as a warning (as well as giving a bit of a chuckle) to QL'ers.
Well, where to start?
Just got back from recce'ing a walk on the peninsula north of Zikreet.
Found the set for the soap opera, parked up, went off, walked for an hour, found various interesting points for the walk, thought I had it sussed.
Then, 300 yards away from the car on returning ........
I was stalked and then attacked by a ruddy ostrich!
Talk about scared! It had me down three times, causing a lot of bad scratches, and I think I've broken a rib.
I tried to grab its neck, but that was difficult, and its big feet kept kicking me. At one point I thought that the only way I was going to get out alive was if I broke its neck.
Luckily my shouts (screams!) for help were heard by one of the guards at the film set, and he ran out with a big stick to ward off the ostrich.
So, if walking on the Abrouq peninsula, don't walk near the film set.
Anyone got other scares / warning / chuckles?
Hope so.
(an even more silvery)SS
i feel bad for u surfer so sorry to hear that... take care....
many thanks for all the good wishes.
Glad it gave a few chuckles (tho' maybe Jauntie's "tears streaming down the face" is going a bit too far!!)
Shortly off to mustashfa to see if I should get an injection (rabies?, other nasties?) and maybe an x-ray - rib is very sore, hopefully not actually broken.
Re. trips to Zekreet - you should be fine, as long as you don't walk near the film set. There is food there for the ostriches, and I don't think they stray far from that.
Keep close to the shore (e.g. near the windsurfing camp) and you will be fine.
Older and wiser,

Imagine silver surfer with an ostrich sized roadrunner after him going:

Are we having "year end" awards on QL? I vote for this as the best story of the year to happen to a QLer.
I haven't laughed so much in AGES !!!! Tears streaming down my face here LMAO
So sorry - I'm sure it was scary but "it's the way you tell 'em" !
Honestly, it was so visually graphic I can hardly type for laughing.

,
Thank u dear for alerting one and all,
last time when I went to zoo, I saw ostrich it was so close, anyway I disturbed this ostrich a lot, every time it comes nearer to me in hope of some thing to eat, I had put the sand on ostrichs eyes, did this many a times and it was feeling so bad and irritating,
ofcourse there was a net in between us
now I feel even worse.
That would have been a somewhat extreme case of liposuction. I know I could do to lose a few pounds, but not that way!
Where was 'elf 'n' safety when you need 'em?
SS
can be lethal having been known to rip out the odd stomach with those big toes. You were lucky.
we don't have a lot of experience of ostriches in Engulse!
There were only about 4 of them!
What's even more scary - I was in Maria Maroka park (near Bloem.) a couple of years ago, on my own, walking all over, viewing the bok and ostriches with my field-glasses. They really were herds.
Shudder to think what would have happened if they had come after me!
Lesson learned!
Humility gained!
(Thought it might get a chuckle of two!)
SS
Holy cow. That is quite the story!
I know its not funny..... but I cannot help laughing... Didn't you see the herd of ostriches when you arrived.... they are all over that area...
and yes, they kick like sh*t.....
And people think dogs are dangerous...;-)
