SF, it's already done! He could have mitigated this if he'd acted at once when the situation arose. But it's now months later and the landlord has deposited non-sufficient fund checks. Those go directly to the police. No taking that back now! It's no longer a landlord/tenant matter it's a criminal issue. He's right to worry.
No worries just tell or call your land lord and matter will be resolved, he will stop putting your cheques in the bank or will with draw from the bank if the cheques are already deposited.
All advice to you in the above by different persons are just to create a fear and nothng.
I thought so MC, but I do know their deposit cheque bounced after they left but perhaps the landlord didn't file a complaint because they're happily living in Qatar again..
You issued cheques that weren't worth the paper they're written on. Landlord takes NSF cheques to police, files a police report BINGO you are now on a list to be detained and arrested should you ever pass through Doha (because you committed a crime, fraudulently writing cheques you were not prepared to pay) and possibly any other GCC country - pray you're never on a plane that's diverted to a GCC country because of mechanical or weather problems because you have created a more serious problem for yourself.
@snessy - they didn't default, they kept paying so no case could be filed. The OP left and emptied their accout so their cheques were returned for non sufficient funds which is illegal in Qatar without a police letter supporting such action
Ok, now I'm confused - I know of someone who left before the tenancy was up but came back to Qatar a year later and they had no problems. But they were paying cash every month for their rent, cheques weren't used, maybe that's why...
Yes, the police got involved and you now have a criminal record in Qatar. You don't even want to be flying QR through DOH. Other absconders have found that out to their peril!
Did you pay a security deposit when you moved in? That will be forfeited which is no big deal. But since you have issued cheques that will now be bouncing you will have a criminal record in the GCC. So coming to Qatar, and perhaps any other GCC country, might potentially lead to you being arrested. Bouncing cheques is taken very seriously.

Intelligent people pay cash month by month.

Indeed they have.

Don't plan on coming back - although I'm getting a number of job offers still.
However it would be good to not have any 'outstanding' issues.
May be I could get in touch with the Landlord / Agency.
if you don't plan on coming back rest easy man.
What? For leaving his house contract void, LOL
If I were you I would stay out of the GCC for good. Heard about one guy who messed up in Dubai, and was caught for it
in Kuwait.
I am.
What I want to know is that does the Police get involved? Or am I completely banned?
What happens? You stay in your home country because you can't come back!

I had issued cheques and whilst abroad I emptied my bank account as the Landlord wanted me to pay for the whole year rent to cancel.
I only lived there for 1 month.
Did you issue cheques? How did you stop them? Did your bank permit that?
