As usual today at 2:30PM I left my office in Bin Omarn for Home in Al Rowdah - Airport. This is my usual route everyday from work to home.

MOD : please adjust the pics since I have no time I have to rush to airport to pick my friend.

I was shocked to find a big deep hole on the newly build raod on the E-Ring road (Asiri underpass). Thanks to Qatari guys who immediately blocked the area and prevented us from accidents.

There is more danger of falling the road from other part as it is clear that if any heavy vehicle pass by the entire area will fall down and can create a huge hole.

Already informed police and concern authorities. They have blocked the area for safety reason.

BUT WHY THIS HAPPENED?

Result of compaction done without ample water...

Soniya the amount of rain in Mumbai is huge. Mumbai goes under water literally year after year in July but the roads never collapse like this...

The root problem is the standard used. Qatar build it according to dry standards....it should be built according to wet standards of a rain affected country...maybe that is the only way out.

....In all of this mess, my respect goes to those positive drivers who stopped in this heat and took the time to think of ways to temporarily alert unsuspected drivers to avoid swerves around the pit, car damage, and/or accidents.

Bless them.

but the first business now is to repair that cracks and hole immediately but PROPERLY. No superficial repair should be done because this is a major road.

As to the extent of failure of parties involved, the road is still new and most definitely is still under warranty period. So it's the duty of the contractor to repair it and make it acceptable to the authorities!

SPEED - I knew there was water leakage involved when I saw your pictures first. This would be a lot of work for whoever does it.

the contractor! Period.

I just wonder if there's a drainage pipe or any water pipe embedded in that area. Pipe might be damaged during compaction unknowingly and it's only now that the sign are visible.

Contractor is obligated to repair the damaged portion. This thing happens and somehow unforseen. Need to open the underground to determine the extent of the damage prior to repair. No superficial repair should be done without proper investigation of the subsoil and underground structures if there is!

Khattak look at the cracks man.. Everything is a problem there :P

One good thing about it, reminds me of India :o)

As someone posted above...its the compaction, not the material. All the three parties involved are responsible.... The Client, The Consultant & The Contractor.

contractor.... when i was taking the photos I noticed water under the road.... it is the water leakage on a bigger scale .. if you see carefully the cracks on the roads this may fall anytime because if you pust you step you can feel softness (like a mud) ....

I think they were aware of this problem but seems like they simply ignored !

Yes luckly there was no vehicle at the time this incident happened and one Qatari guys who came before me noticed and pulled the tyre from the ground with help of others and kept it on the hole...

We diverted the traffic for half an hour... later police came and we left... don't know what happened later.

Have you read my comment wisely? I have clearly said that it is not okay, but we (Blood cells again) wish that a punishment will take place, and I hope they rot in jail, and lose all their money, and s**t happens we can see that even in the Mexican gulf and what is happening with BP, I know you will say: and see what are they doing and how they are being punished, that is publicity and that is a crises, Thank God it is not the case here.

sometimes I feel that we are paying for such a thing, certainty after reading such comments, back in Europe yes I know that you do pay for it, but not here. anyways I think everything is happening for a reason, and not always we would hear of these cases due to some reason which no one is to interfere with lol so let go and thank the almighty GOD no one got hurt.

Yep LP agree.

The sad part of this whole incident is there is no Emergency Response Maintenance Team who can come out and fix this with in hours.

If this was in the west, the lane would have been coned off and repair instigate by now.

Lets see when this repair is actually carried, irrespective of who is to be blamed.

this exactly what I meant, there should be a real punishment, since that is going to be harsh if it was some where in Europe.

I find it amusing when people say that things like this can happen anywhere in the world - go to the UK and I can assure you that things like this don't happen - and if they happen then the responsible company is in deep trouble!

It's a ground breaking discovery!

I think it's a burrow which belongs to some animal. Now ashgal covered it with bitumen so the animal digs it open from below.

"reconstructed"???...it was only BUILT a few months ago,by a public works authority that obviously has no shortage of funds & can pretty much get the best that money can buy(since they don't have any of their own) in terms of material & contractors...& care to clarify the bit about the manhole?...didn't quite get that...

By anonymous• 24 Jun 2010 17:30

its a depression on the road, but mostly it happens to see around the manhole... dont worry it would be reconstructed on emergency basis...go nd sleep at ur homes... ;O

It is not the materials whyt--- as you look at the pictures..i can conclude poor compaction of the road before laying the asphalt. ASHGHAL and CONTRUCTORS are responsible for this....for GOD SAKE!
