Horrible Experience - Orient Pearl Restaurant

By telljax

We went to celebrate a friend's birthday at Orient Pearl last night. the ambiance and the deco was amazing and we were really looking fwd to an amazing time.

We were seated at La Toscana and when my friend asked if a particular dish has any meat in it the waiter said that it has only vegetables. However when we were served, the meal contained beef in it.

To make things worse I had given them a cake( from another bakery) and asked them to light the candles and bring it to us after the meal. As soon as we were done with our dinner, the manager called me on the side and informed me that by mistake the cake which I had given to them was given to another table and in return they had an ice cream cake only.

Seriously the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The waiters are highly misinformed about the food and it seemed even after their blunder, the staff was highly unapologetic.

Somebody should inform them that its the food and service that makes a restaurant exceptional and not the expensive lighting/furniture.

Definitely never going to this place again.

almost had the same experience but it got even worse

i went there me and friend and ordered some food it wasnt too much even and the food came ice cold so a friend of mine asked a waited to heat up the dish which was some chicken wrap and the waiter just told her this is how people eat it and ignored her so the rest of the food came and it was as cold so i asked the waiter to heat all the plates and the guy just told me no i served it and you should eat it it might have been there for a while its not my fault, so i told him you are either saying that i am blind coz i just saw you coming its not that i left and came back i was sitting there the whole time or you are calling me a liar in both cases thats not acceptable and i still wish my plates to be heated, that's when the conversation heated up instead of the plates so he started acting rude, shouting at me so i started shouting back then he kept saying i don't work for you i shouldn't be listening to you as if he is paying for my food or something, then i asked for the manager and his exact words were "go sit down"... he repeated for at least 5 times then i burst at him saying "are you teaching me to behave or what am i supposed to do as you please??? i thought i was the client??!!" then the manager came and even when the manager was there the waiter kept going on in his rude attitude that the manager also shouted at him to go away

even after the manager ordered the waiters to heat up the food the food tasted bad and wasn't that hot, so i decided to let it pass as this was a farewell party and i didn't want to ruin the mood more than it already was ruined

It is about everything,

1-Waiters ad waitresses are selected just to full the position and most do not have the experience and training

2-Waiters and waitresses get paid crap, so what is really motivating to do a better job when a poor job and a great job will get the same income?

3-Waiters and Waitresses never even get the chance to TRY the food at the place they work at. Try to ask a waiter about a certain dish, he'd say I don't know sir I never tried it. They charge you like 30 stars prices and they buy furniture for millions and pay rents in the 100 thousands yet they can't afford to let their employees taste the food they serve?!

4-I blame managers for bringing clueless people who fly from countries where a "car" on a street is something extraordinary and they allocate them at sophisticated places where this fake image is supposed to be reflected?

5- I have been to restaurants where waiters actually LIE to the customer. You ask him for something he answers and then when you feel that the answer is simply a lie just to save him the hassle of taking a trip to the kitchen and if you ask another waiter, you will be surprised at the variance in the answers.. simply horrible!

6-Every single business in Qatar lacks the customer service requirement. They do not give a flying **** about the customer and in here the customer is always wrong!

Marco Nandos, maybe you look like a wimp or g*y if waiters hit on your dates as it never happened to me or anyone I know. Instead of blaming a whole nationality, you better look at what make others hit on your dates and try to fix it.

thx

It isn't about money always (low salaries)....it is about aptitude, attitude and the desire to live a life bigger than they can and add to it that nasty trace of racism.

I was there yesterday to dine in for my wife's birthday and the place looked awesome....but just had a feeling that something is not right about the place.....I then left and dined in at Taj Rasoi in Mariot...

I think now a days ppl employee staff based on the the glamour and not practicality......these new restaurant managers hardly seem professional and don't have the mentality of listening and understanding...

@MarcoNandoz- Oh that's very bad. Always there's a priority for customers. They have to serve their customers respectfully, doesn't matter how much their business worth. Even a single tea... serve them in a proper way. I've seen many cases as yours. May be those people not enough grown up I guess!

'its the food and service that makes a restaurant exceptional and not the expensive lighting/furniture' - 100% agreed! They should make sure their front-of-house staff are well trained, knowledgeable about the food you sell and impeccably turned out. Customers are unlikely to come back if their staff is unsure of your menu or provide poor service. Really BAD!

I'm not surprised. Restaurants service are beyond horrible. I once walked out from a restaurant because of a rude waitress.

Maybe if those who work at restaurant started getting their salaries based ONLY on the tips they earn from customers depending on how good/bad their service is, maybe then they will start to do a better job.
