HONDA CIVIC strange INCIDENT ...SUDDEN UNINTENDED HIGH RACE
Today when i was comming back from doha on the highway at a speed of 125 the car went suddenly on full 7500 rpm and as soon as i judged its going high i pressed the brakes and after about five seconds the rpm went down...i stopped the car every thing was fine i switched of fand started again nothing found.i am worried about this incident.thing is that i m the first owner of this car its 2008 honda civic LX 1.8 and it faced some problems when it was just a few months old and those were drive shaft sensors related which caused some jerks in gear shifting.th egear is automatic.please share your ideas as i know honda was not able to catch previous problems unless the sensors went dead and i had to go 15 times to indistrial area.
khalli: i agree; that would be the likely decision since i like my life to be as simple as possible; that's why I still only buy Nokia phones lol; but in fairness to women, their user manual very clearly instructs us on page 1 - paragraph 1 to just love them unconditionally and not try to figure them out hahaha...failure to do this voids the warranty :-)
zafirah: would be cool if Opel/Vauxhaull sold it in Qatar and you bought it; imagine your car registration card; Owner: Zafirah; Model: Zafira :-)
mohdata, from evo review... I didn't know that.... hahahaha!
mohdata, that's without "h" ;) ...... evo....
zafirah: haha thanks, did you know your username is also the name of a car? .. you wouldn't be so impressed if you knew just how much i love cars/driving and that i quit a cozy job 2 weeks back to find something else that lets me indulge my passion for anything related to cars; I dream of a life where I am surrounded by cars and all the lovely sounds and smells they make:-)..I also wonder what i'd do if I had to choose between my dream car and dream woman :-)
ben: you're most welcome and thank you too for being a good person yourself; loved that you wouldn't sell your problem to others; inshallah, God will now take care of you and your car; I'm sorry for worrying you like that but i say forewarned is forearmed; also, sorry for pointing out your username it was unnecessary and none of my business..best of luck:-)
thank you very much mohdata ,i learnt a lot from your explanation and this tells me that th eworld has live a bit more because the good people still exists,The thing is that engine is giving a weired sound sometimes at 2000 and sometimes at 3000 rpm.You seems to be right about sensors malfunction andi cant sell the car in this situation.i dont want somebody else to get killed this way and i know i can handle this car in emergency
hopefully i will fix it through dealer
but one thing is clear high temprature of doha can melt anything even its a control system made in japan or Germany. We are paying the price of manufacturers experiments.
thanks again
mohdata, wow! very informative and helpful post! must say... I'm impressed!
yeah true that; the scary thing is F1 drivers react and save the car from situations that would leave most normal people dead..we don't see it but they feel skids and slides before they even happen and make many corrections to the steering wheel in corners at 200kph..and for that to be happening in a Civic on public roads is frightening to think of ..
khalli: hahaha you're back...and this time, i can't defend him either because he's now at 150 lol...so help yourself to him and tear him apart my most merciful fellow QL'er :-)
ben another thing to keep in mind....there have been cases of the brakes not working during sudden acceleration...one case with a Camry caused 3 deaths.this is due to some brake-throttle interlock switch which is related to the cruise control i think...tell Honda you are very worried and that you are scared to drive the car and that if it happens again, you're going to consumer rights...it might make them take you more seriously...and they should because this is is not a broken cup holder that you're worried about....Toyota paid 1.2 billion dollars for this same scary situation in thousands of their cars....sorry if i seem too interested but i love cars, every second of my spare time goes to cars... and also am worried for you and about the thought of you in a dangerous car driving around the same streets where many others do...it might not happen again another 5 yrs or it might happen tonight while you're slowing to a stop at a red light and some one is crossing the street in front of you...and that makes me shudder...best of luck and praying for you to be safe :-)
another thing, i know its none of my business...but if no one is able to help you, you might be tempted to sell the car and be rid of the problem...and i'm not going to tell you to be very honest and not pass a dangerous car to someone else...after all its you who is suffering so yeah....and you also can't tell the buyer about the problem else who'd buy it? but if you do decide to sell, please try to sell to some younger guy who would at least be able to react in an emergency....old folk or inexperienced women drivers would be clueless and in their hands, its sure to end badly...sorry for your situation though...wish they had the 'lemon law' in qatar where you could just get a new car for such serious defects...
ben: what do you mean engine has gone? your engine has died? who told you that? this has nothing to do with your engine...unless you've not maintained the car well, your engine should last well above 300000kms...
So, if you're saying the car sped up with the rpms, it means your transmission and torque converter are fine...
BUT, and now read carefully, there have been numerous reports of unintended acceleration in Civics and other cars worldwide (google it)..this ks now an electronics/sensor/software issue and not a failing transmission or clutch...your car has electronic 'drive by wire' which means what you do with the accelerator pedal is sent to the engine as a signal, you don't have a physical/mechanical cable between the pedal and throttle...most cases of sudden acceleration are in cars with drive by wire systems..and if its happened once it'll happen again...in the car wash, at the traffic lights, anywhere.....the fact that you had electronic sensor issues within months of buying the car, suggests your car has manufacturing defects....but your problem is the dealers can't do anything until they can make the problem occur on demand or unless they scan your car and find some error codes..i suggest you check with them but your best move now is to mentally practice how you would react to any future incidents...rehearse how you're going to shift calmly to neutral and slow the car down..and always pay attention at traffic lights/other places where you're distracted and have many things close to your car...but definitely go to the dealer and remind them of the earlier sensor issues and now this...its a serious safety concern for you and others...also, do some basic checks like your transmission fluid levels, check if your floor mats are blocking the pedals and whether you have any vacuum leaks in the engine hoses...please don't ignore this, it will come back at the worst possible time from what i've read and heard about this issue...
well guyz after seeing all those questions you asked above...the engine of the car has gone and its none of my mistake as i am running it since six years in the speed between 120 to 150 and from mechanical point of view its normal for this car.Now where is the consumer protection court,my concern is not about engine or speed,my concern is about the safety. There are cars who run @300km/hr if they malfunction @200km per hour you will see first why it happened a car running with out gas being pressed...its not only amazing but a question mark on the quality of manufacturer production. Now answers are
.no it didnt happened again
i never go to this rpm before
yes the car was trying to speed but i pressed brake firmly.
it happened for just five seconds
ignore the user name
thanks for the precious comments
I find it too difficult to agree with you ............ unfortunately the image is't coming up also.

Khalli , Good excuse ... you fabricated ... one day you would choose not to respond to the ID Khalliwalli saying you 'r only a QLer ? No you can't . Electrons ares like QLers & Khalli is the NEGATIVELY charged one ....... .................. Wed , 13.08.2014 , 10.33 hrs
Ata , You would want to say .... , it seems in some cases even one soul { 75 points in one & 25 points in the other } is functioning in two - two fellows these days ...... ............... LOL .... ...... Wed , 13.08.2014 , 09.33 hrs
lol you guys can't live with each other and can't live without either; we always are bickering and annoying each other but keep coming back for more; truth is each user brings their own flavor and that's the fun of it...Khalli and Molten would each save the other if he was hanging off a cliff, wouldn't you, guys? Khalli?? Molten?? hahahahah :-)
MM, lols!...yeah! it's really hard to teach someone who doesn't have a will to learn. it just like you are pulling out a komodo dragon from his hole. :)) Back to topic: That incident happened also to my colleague driving his Chevy cruze, exactly as what ben_chode pictured out....the company replace the transmission assembly. btw: ben_chode, if your car is not already under warranty. it will be a costly job to be done.
Dada, One is positive other is negative. { Thanks for appreciating the underlying fun }.
Imthi, Ya , everybody says so that Khalli 's choice of negative views is pathetic.
Knor, To correct the warped way of thinking of Khalli I am already tired .
it's so funny reading everyday comment from QL especially from those active fellow like K & M
always negetive comments from this Khalli. thats is why he is standing on his head. thinkh possitive man.
Why not just answer his inquiry? wishing a more trouble to others is pathetic! I hope it will not happen to you either. To ben_chode. its in transmission problem, just bring your car to Honda service center. they will fix that free of charge as it is still in warranty.
....and don't break the law!
Problems did not get solved: Answer: just take it to the dealer or a Honda garage and let the mechanic check it out! (SIMPLE)
Acchabaccha , I agree with your observation about Khalli but there are some creatures who do quite well even while hanging up-side-down ........................... ..................... Tue ,11.08.2014, 07.30 hrs
The problem with khallli is that he thinks and writes while standing on his head. If he were to stand on his too feet, he would be able think more properly and write something sensible.
khalli: he was driving OUT of Doha; probably on a 120kph highway; there's a 3-5kph tolerance built into most cameras and it would not be a violation; not to mention that most car speedometers are inaccurate and read higher than actual...
ben-chode (pretty juvenile username sorry):
1) When the rpm spiked to 7.5k, did the car also suddenly speed up/accelerate? Or did the rpm just spike up and make noise but not accelerate the car any faster?
2) I want you to again drive at 125 kph and tell us the exact rpm the Civic engine normally needs to maintain a constant 125.
3) Does your car have cruise control?
4) Was this the first time this happened? Can you make the car do it again? You're right, Honda won't and CAN'T do anything if there's no error codes stored in the computer and if they can't reproduce the problem.
Let me know; depending on your answers, it could be one of two scenarios; none of which are good news sorry..my aim is to just give you some insight so that the dealer doesn't treat you like a child and so that you know what to ask them. Best of luck.
