Am I the only one that is dissatisfied with the school in Qatar?....I mean really....you gotta pay out your a** (excuse my language) just for an average education that you can be getting free in the States....!!! So I decided to homeschool, I am using Calvert, at first I was hesitant, ya I am a teacher by profession but teaching your own child is a whole nother issue....Moms you know!!! Anyone out there like me?? homeschooling or thinking about it ???? I am new to this whole Qatar living thing i really wanna start a group....homeschooling moms or dads........

checked out the book you posted up....looks real good, thanks, but as you mentioned about socialization, there are other ways that kids can do it outside of school, for me , my son goes to play group once a week and basketball practice 2ice a week, so he is able to socialize then.....Are there any parents out there who want to homeschool but can't ????

You're probably right.

I've only come across one couple in Doha who had homeschooled for a while, and they were doing it because of the poor quality of local schools.

Decided not. Schools are rubbish, but the socialization thing is the killer argument. Home schoolers tend to have religious arguments, rather than practical ones in favour of their choice.

Doha has at least three good English-speaking schools. They are expensive, but nowhere near the price that would be charged for equivalent schools in the UK. You would probably be able to give your kid a better education at home, but it will be a full-time job, and they'll be isolated from other children.

There's a book you should buy if you decide to go ahead. It's the most complete guide I found, and doesn't place too much emphasis on religion:

The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home
