HIV spreading in middle east

Read in the news regarding HIV spreading in middle-east, which is a matter of concern.

Expatriates are asked to go for medical test when they arrive Doha for the first time. Well n good !!

But how about those people who are based in Qatar and fequently travel all around the world  due to business and official work and get back to Qatar again? They might just bring the disease any time to the country.

Its a matter of concern what kind od precautionary measures Qatar would take in order to prevent spreading of HIV !!

hiv in the middle east is not being spread by just forgeiners. its being spread by its own people as well.you can prevent HIV by A) not sleeping around with anyone but your husband/wife and B) using a condom.I think the spread has to do with the lack of education.

There is no vaccine to prevent it or any cure for HIV. Unbelievable how uneducated people can be about such a subject which affects the whole world.

from the same previous source

Is There a Vaccine to Prevent HIV Infection?

There is currently no vaccine available. The best way to prevent HIV is to use sterile needles and practice safer sex .

people become loyal and responsible for what they do.

I post the following from

http://www.thewellproject.org/en_US/HIV_The_Basics/Oral_Sex_Whats_the_Real_Risk.jsp

Studies on the Risks of Oral Sex

Even though oral sex is a lower-risk activity, people have reportedly become infected with HIV in this way. A number of studies have tried to determine the exact level of risk of oral sex, but it can be difficult to get accurate information from study participants. Since oral sex is not the only sexual activity for most people, it is also difficult to single out oral sex as the definite way HIV was transmitted. Because of these issues, different studies have reported different levels of risk ranging from less than 1% to about 8%.

The take home message of these studies is that oral sex carries a small but real risk.

Taking Care of Yourself

Any type of sexual activity with an infected person carries a risk of HIV transmission. While the risk of becoming infected through unprotected oral sex is lower than that of unprotected anal or vaginal sex, bad oral hygiene and taking cum in your mouth makes oral sex more risky.

If you or your partner is HIV+, you should decide what steps to take to make all types of sex as safe as possible. If you would like to discuss these issues, see a sex educator or health care provider at your local AIDS service organization or treatment center.

To be honest, I don't think they should bother to test us at all, there are so many loopholes, it is farcicle

By britexpat• 4 Aug 2011 11:36
britexpat

It doesn't. I am just saying that perhaps they have a logic for focusing on the "transient" population.

By jjj75• 4 Aug 2011 11:34
jjj75

BE - how does that stop the spread of disease then?

By britexpat• 4 Aug 2011 11:29
britexpat

Perhaps their logic is that the local population is in a minority.

By chiceu• 4 Aug 2011 11:22

In such cases, Qatar should not claim, this is a 'HIV free' country !! I guess I am right !! !!!

Thank you all for all your comments. I myself being an expat this is what I wanted to hear .I agree with "britexpat" that we all need to take a reality pill.

I guess we all know that HIV does not spread only by s**ual interc**rse , but also by many other ways.

So if Qatar wants to claim to be a HIV free country, this is not enough. Its like any other country we are living in.

Cheers

the careless person and the real looser is the person who does not care about him/her self and carry this disease as nothing is happened to him or her.

A stupid person is a person who knows that walking in dangereous way will not cause any trouble, trouble from a dangereous way will be minimized only if there is a luck and proper tools were used.

This message is to those people who travels for f**k and s*x, drug,...etc,

please respect your values if you have some, remember your wife your children who needs you, please maintain yourself for them, your life is great gift so why do spoil it, see those many who whish to have good life but they can not, please remember your brothers, sisters, mother, fathe, your sons, please let them be happy to see you healthy.

is just incidental.  What is important is the state to monitor all the people that live here whetehr local or expats.  MAny here stayed for more than 10 years and yet only when they are sick do they find time to have check-ups. There are other deadly diseases out there and as per advice by our family doctors, a regular check-up, even an annual check-up whether we are sick or not is better to check any possibility of a disease hitting us.

Isn’t it grand living in a country with such high moral standards with the locals leading the way with their displays of virtue and moral practices?

Pilgram - my point exactly, there is no point screening a certain section of the population to prevent the spread of HIV and Aids, when another section is not being tested and can possibly spread the disease

By anonymous• 4 Aug 2011 09:45

I see nothing wrong with regular testing of expatriates.  However, something needs to be done about the local population as well.  They are severly lacking in education about HIV prevention.

If Qatar has such a concern about the spread of HIV and AIDs, either we should all be tested regularly or not at all.

And all anyone has to do is buy off a doctor to say they tested clean.  Done all the time with medical leave.

I think we need to take a reality pill here. Testing everyone, each time they travel is nigh on impossible and expensive to boot. As a dear Qler would say - the real answer is education :O)

I meant everybody should be checked while entering this country from any part of the world .Locals also go all around the world.

HIV is not curable - although treatment options make the prognosis somewhat better than in the past.

By anonymous• 3 Aug 2011 21:37

I'm not against this.. HIV is a serious thing that should be taken cared. Let's say: there are people riding in 4x4s who are looking forward to something more exotic or there are expatriates who are going in and out of doha for business trips who is probable of spreading HIV.Testing them should not be opposed. In my opinion,if in case i am positive with HIV of course I'd like to know so I could be curead rather than go on with my life here without being aware of my situation..I'm certain many people out there are not even minding this but this is something really important. HIV could ruin people's lives..& if having a test could help prevent this from spreading then why won't we say yes to it?

By flor1212• 3 Aug 2011 20:58
flor1212

my point only is to make it mandatory for expats (to the company's expense) for an annual medical check-up to check any medical problem an expat may get while on emplyment here.  So it could be remedied at once. Rather than being sick first before going for check-up, why not make it mandatory again.  As for the locals, once someone or somebody dies of such a disease, then they will realise the imporatnce of early detection and cure if ever!

By Alumnar• 3 Aug 2011 20:51

Flor, most of us do routine medical check-ups every 6 months (like hubby and I do). HIV was requested for admission. If we both know how we stand then I don't mind doing one every year! I bet you though that most locals would NOT!!! Ask yourself why.

By flor1212• 3 Aug 2011 20:49
flor1212

was how to prevent the HIV spreading in this region (if that is eve true).  So I suggested that a regular annual medical check-up for all expats (but I did not say, NOT TO LOCALS). So what's the problem?

By flor1212• 3 Aug 2011 20:46
flor1212

having an annual medical check-up? Actually, this is puzzling me that after an expat was brought here to work, no regular check up is done.  Only when someone gets sick that one visist a clinic or the hospital?I would rather be subjected to an annual medical check-up as I will know the status of my own health! Prevention is better than cure!

Who knows flor? They know, not us!

By anonymous• 3 Aug 2011 20:43

Or let's put it like this: why would a local be concerned about his wife? Is she having illegal contact with expats? Hardly ever. So, who are the culprits? The Qataris who can afford to f*** around because they have the money.

By flor1212• 3 Aug 2011 20:42
flor1212

are these women you are referring to are locals or expats? IF and IF ever they are traced to have any deadly disease (not only HIV), then these locals will be crazy NOT to have their own check-up!

By Alumnar• 3 Aug 2011 20:42
Alumnar

Guess what - both hubby and I were tested before being allowed to sign the contract and move to Doha! If it was the case with all expats then we sure know who is responsible for HIV spread!!!

LP - spot on!!!!!!

And then, who cares? Let them all die if they think they have to be promiscuous!Life has always been a risk.

Are the 4x4's bouncing up and down late in the evening in shopping center car parks having their regular maintenance check? With blacked-out non-legal tinting? Sure they are - supported by a female mechanic 'changing the oil'. As if we are stupid and blind!

By flor1212• 3 Aug 2011 20:37

they will realize who is spreading it, whether local or expats, it's good to be informed!

When they returned after vacation? might a chance to HIV ?

By anonymous• 3 Aug 2011 20:35

The measures Qatar will take are more medical tests for expats, while the locals go on fu**ing whores from Bahrain and/or China.

By flor1212• 3 Aug 2011 20:35

your heart is just pasted on your body! Lol!For me, whether there is an HIV issue or not, the medical should be a part of yearly medical check-up for expats (why expats), because I am an expat.  Let the locals be taken care of their own government whilethe expats be taken care of by the concerned company or goernment agency that handles expats.I am not focussing on HIV or whatever diseases may be arising so fast in this country or region. In my country, a lot of company are already requiring the mandatory medical test, ANNUALLY, for their regular employees as an added benefit (of sort) to the employee.  And good for me, I am always employed in such companies!

Really? So the locals who use hookers and travel abroad for s*x represent no danger? What a stupid and ignorant logic!!! Have you ever seen the amount of 4x4's parked in the Airpory Car Park with camping gear inside? Guess what they are up to - sure not camping in Qatar, more like off to somewhere more 'exotic' the wives don't know about! Test the local population first before you turn to expats - because we sure know what to do to stay safe and diseasefree!!!

exam for expats.  It's for their own good also. It should be taken to any accredited clinic with laboratory.  Just a suggestion!
