Here is your chance to tell the world about Qatar!
There is an interesting travel website called Wikitravel which I recently discovered: http://wikitravel.org/en/Qatar
This site is written and edited by whoever wants to make a contribution. You can delete, add to, or change anything that is already on the site. You don't have to register. Just go to the site, click on edit, and start typing. Very unusal format!
There was some info on this site that some on this board felt was inaccurate--it said Western women should wear abayahs if they want to avoid having Muslim men harrass them. It was under the "Stay Safe" section on the Qatar page. Anyway, I just checked the page and all of that has been deleted--by someone on this board or by anyone else (no way to know). Which is fine. That's the whole point of Wikitravel--write what you want and anyone behind you can add or change anything you say.
I just thought maybe some more of you might like to go to this site and tell what you know about Qatar. Since I haven't moved to Qatar yet, I don't know much myself. I did make one tiny addition to the Qatar page: Under the "Learn" section, I said "Texas A&M University has a branch located in Doha: http://www.qatar.tamu.edu/" That much, I do know, so I typed that in. There's no other info in the "Learn" section so maybe someone on this board might like to give some other info on schools in Qatar.
So, if anyone is interested in telling the world about Qatar, just go to wikitravel.org and type in your comments! The only downside is that whatever you type can be deleted by someone else, but if your comments are reasonable and accurate, hopefully that won't happen. You can also give your opinion about various other places in the world.
I'm not sure if it still there but if you go down the side of The Centre far enough, there used to be a tyre shop with a sign that read "Punctury". I suppose they had seen butchery and bakery so what the hell.
