Help!!-- Vehicle Title and Registration

My wife and I are in the process of selling a vehicle, but here's the issue we're facing. We bought the car here using a loan from our bank in America. The way car loans from American banks work is that when the car is purchased, the title for the vehicle is sent to the bank for the bank to hold until the loan is paid off. But since, as I understand it, the government of Qatar does not issue titles to vehicles, much less titles for vehicles purchased using an out-of-country loan, we have no formal document to send to our bank back home stating that it is the lien holder on the vehicle. Can anyone who has faced this dilemma offer any solutions or workarounds? Thank!

Have you been to the dept of Transport about this? If your reg card does not say you outright own the vehicle they will not let you transfer the reg or the title without what they call a no objection certificate.

An NOC is usually issued by the lender of the car loan stating the laon has been settled and they do not object to it being sold. I strongly suggest you go and enquire what paperwork you are doing to need to sell this car.

If your buyers are having salaries paid into a Doha based bank already it is much easier to obtain a loan here.

I appreciate the insight you offered. We had decided to get the loan via the bank back home because we figured it would be less of a hassle than dealing with a bank here. However, it really was a hassle to secure the loan via the US bank and even worse to actually get the money wired over here. I'll take a look at the registration card and see about scanning that to see if it is acceptable. The purchasers of the vehicle are in a similar situation we were in when we bought.

Firstly, have to say, knowing generally how most "car loans" work in the US I'm quite surprised you have one for a vehicle outside the US. But anyway ...

Having just bought a second hand car here that was initially purchased in Doha with a loan from HSBC this is my understanding of the situation.

The registration card you get with the vehicle acts as both an anual registration card and the title of the vehicle. When we just registered this car, he asked about the title for it and the women pointed to a line on the registration card and said "cash buy". So it will state on the card whether the car is owned outright or not. If you go to the Qatar website it does talk about the transfer of registrations and titles, the concept exists but the seperate paper document doesn't.

This is the only 'document' you will get so the only thing I can suggest is that you scan the card and have the details translated.

Did you pay for the car in cash already transfered to you? Or did the bank pay the money directly to the dealer? If it is the former then the reg card will state you outright own anyway giving the bank no claim to the vehicle. Not that it's any dam good to the bank in Doha anyway which is why I'm astounded you have secured a "car loan" that reuires you to provide the title to the bank .. but *shrug*.

Hope that helps explain it for you.

Edit - If you're selling the vehicle, why is this a problem?? Are the Dept of Transport looking for an NOC to allow you to transfer reg and title to the buyer?
