Hi every one, I am new to "Qatar Living" and would be working for QP from Jan 2007. Me and my wife would be arriving in Doha on the Jan 9, 2007. I was there in Jun this year for an interview and it was very hot for even a Malaysian like me. Is the weather pleasant now? I have been visiting the site the past one month and managed to gather some very good information but there are much more I wish to talk about. I would appreciate if some one could guide me on what would be the best way to ship some of my belongings from Malaysia after the 3 months of probation in QP.

dweller has good knowledge about QP and hope you and others could give me some idea on what would be the activities taking place in QP for me the first few weeks.

To the other Malaysian, Hi and hope to communicate with you via the forum.

Hope to get some reply to help me start a new chapter in Doha. Thank you.

If you can't find a decent place to live in Doha that will meet your standards; you could always try out a Tent in the middle of desert. I have done it and it was fun.

Otherwise accept the challenge and live with it.

Respectfully

David

If you look at other posts, you'll see that the accomodation situation here is bad, and it would be difficult for you to find anything affordable just now. Things are expected to improve after the Asian Games, however, so it might be an idea to put up with the offered shared acco for a month, and then see what's available in the New Year.

The Asian Games will also hamper your forays into society. The traffic's gonna be horrendous and some clubs (eg QNHG and Doha Players) won't even be trying to have functions. However, you'll get ideas from Marhaba magazine (available most supermarkets and hotels). If you're into bar culture and feeling bold, visit big hotels and Garveys or the Rugby Club.

Yes they have offered me accommodation but it is shared. I have told them I want to live on my own.

Try finding your self a nice group to go out with, i used to have a fantastic group consisted of two females one from Korea and one from Egypt, and three men, me and one Egyptian and a another Qatari

we had lots of decent fun, we went out for picnics and had lovely time together nearly on daily basis.

Until the female who was an Egyptian and her Arabic jealousy hot blood she ruined everything :(

we all had something different and nice, we all liked each other but she was putting her love in a wrong way, the guy he liked her as friend but she was not and always we had problems, then it all was broken and we still me and my friend going out and looking for nice people to go out with.

So anyone out there males or females you are welcome to creat a nice group to spend the time with.

At 12.58hrs you say – “They provide me with accommodation.”

At 13.46hrs you say – “The only thing I am concerned about is that they told me there are only two bedroom flats and I would have to share - or they give me a housing allowance of half the rent.”

Which is it?

My recommendation take the house provided by the company and let them handle the inflation.

If it is the hotel which is putting you up in a flat, the person sharing it with you will be a colleague, so it is better than getting a separate allowance and sharing with some one you do not know and you will have to deal with inflation at some stage.

Just my thoughts.

congrats on your new job and welcome to qatar and QL

any idea what would be the allowance they would give you, even if its half the rent.

depending on your allowance we would probably be able to tell you if you will get a decent place or not, probably a small unfurnished studio flat.they too are in the range of 3000-4500qrs.i hope its not increased yet.

I have lived on my own for 9 years - I think I would find it hard to share.

The only thing I am concerned about is that they told me there are only two bedroom flats and I would have to share - or they give me a housing allowance of half the rent.

Is it hard to find a one bedroom flat. I really cannot share.

I understand that most Star hotels provide food, uniform, yearly ticket & transport, if that is covered, offer is good and you may save quite a bit.

I know this has probably been asked a million times but I would appreciate any help you can give me.

I have been offered a job with 2000 US$ at Hotel. Is this an ok salary for a single person to live off and save a little each month. They provide me with accommodation.

Thanks to anyone that replies.
