Hi Everyone, has anyone else been had personal emails sent from a person claiming to be from the ivory coast and wanting you to be their sponsor. Just gone into my settings now to turn off having emails sent. But they still keep sending them?

Sometimes, they ask you for personal information like your name, address, telephone No, mobile, etc. Others, which are highly professionals asking you for a passport scans and your bank account...

I believe they will not steal you, however they may get in you a really hard trouble..

I have got a lot of this scams from people in Nigeria...who have tons of millions and need someone to help them transferring their money out...

Regards,

there are different kinds of mails and directed to different people, either ways you lose money if you fall into their trap.

i have had nigerian money mail asking for help, mails i won millions are the most common and they look so genuine, never had a mail from a woman though, that could be playing on the emotional angle.

dont give it a second thought. ignore the mail.

I know these scams are going on all the time, the sad thing is many people give there hard earned money to them & never see it again.

Yes it is very odd, they usually ask you for money. Very strange women. Never mind :) But surely I cant be the only person on QL who gets them? Or am I?

The odd thing is that they say you have won millions in a lottery that you didn't even enter!

Obviously counting on everyone being greedy.........and stupid!

it's probably the same scammers putting up the phone ads. What a bunch of losers, honestly guys get a REAL job.

lyndlou don't humour this ---they do it to ppl all over the world and ppl end up losing hundreds of thousands dollars.

If you get another e-mail threaten to contact the authorities.

She didn't offer me any money, just to be her sponse and partner (her Father left her the money), then something about an Uncle coming as well. Very strange. :(

Before asking her not to send anymore, had you thought what would you do with such amount of money?

Excellent replies,it appears she has 10 million dolars & wants to leave the country immediately. But never mind, after the last email I asked her not to send anymore. :)

If she claims to be rich (which they all do), ask her to send a picture of herself in a bikini AND a copy of her bank statement!

Nice Solution.

But still the idea of asking her to send you a picture seems very reasonable.

There was a nice program, which was reading aloud in a synthesized voice Nigerian (419) spam... lost it and can't find it anymore, it was really funny.

Btw, when I get such letters (I mean if they make it through gmail.com spam filter) I usually answer - yes, I am very interested, please call my secretary at 1-419-GET-CAUGHT and make an appointment. Works like charm.
