Guy Manoukian Concert by Qatar Foundation

Another music event brought by Qatar Foundation after The Chamber Music. This time is a Lebanese musician call Guy Manoukian. Something different compare to classical recital QF brought in the past. This time instead being held in QF auditorium the venue changed to Qatar National Theatre.

It was advertised as a jazz concert … but when I attended the concert the pieces he played more like modernized Arabic songs. In the beginning I was really keen to match the song he played and the title in the
program sheets … but then the title was in Arabic words that doesn’t make any sense to me. What the heck then … I just chucked the program sheet in my bag and enjoying the song Guy and the band played …

He came with his band members in total was 7 members (8 person including Guy as pianist). His band members played drums, bass, violin, bouzouki, Arabic percussion, Nai, Lead Guitar.

I post 3 clips from the concert , the first clip was Harem.
This song won Armenian Music Awards for Best Dance Album (Guy received the award in Los Angeles), and the Best Arabic Tune in Lebanon in 2002.

The second clip call Astrid … Guy’s first ever composition which is the name of his beloved Mother.

Third clip … I have no idea what was the song call. As I said in the beginning I lost track tried to match the song and the title in the program sheets. And in the end I just gave up. In my opinion … this is the only song / pieces from the concert that I think more like jazz (I took about 8 or 9 clips till my battery dead) …

Another big thank you to Qatar Foundation for this event, I was so impressed with Guy Manoukian and the band … now I am off to Virgin to buy his record…

never heard about him before whoami ... but i thought his concert was really cool. He can play jazz well, good in sort of classical, and his way of mixing accoustic piano with all those arabic percussion just awesome.

i guess i just convert myself to be his fans ...
