Goldman Sachs - $68m salary for CEO
I found this amazing and intersting to boot. Capitalism at its most successful...
Goldman Sachs, a giant amongst banks.. Some say that it carries more political force than many governments. So is GS to be admired or hated ????????
Assets of over $1 trillion. Annual revenues in the tens of billions. Profits of billions, which they distribute liberally amongst the staff. Average pay this recessionary year for the 30,000 staff is expected to be a record $700,000. Top earners will get tens of millions.
Politicians and commentators compete to denounce Goldman in ever more robust terms — "robber barons", "economic vandals", "vulture capitalists".
Rolling Stone magazine ran a story that described Goldman as "a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money".
"I know I could slit my wrists and people would cheer," says the CEO - Lloyd Blankfein. "We’re very important," he says, "We help companies to grow by helping them to raise capital. Companies that grow create wealth. This, in turn, allows people to have jobs that create more growth and more wealth. It’s a virtuous cycle." To drive home his point, he makes a remarkably bold claim. "We have a social purpose."

to make people bankrupt and jobless :(
Feeding CEO a big salary package....who could make it float under crisis.
I love it when he says "We have a social purpose." :O)
at INR 30 crores (INR 300 millions = US$ 6.4 million)....
Regarding GS....this is Romancing at Company, Govt's and Tax payers Expenses!
This is the main thing. An organization like GS has its tentacles in many areas of government and can exert influence when required.
$68 Million???no wonder my skin looks kinda green :-D
