By silenceisgood •
Hi Guys...
Two question, hope your expereince will answer...
1. It is heard that there is difference in quality between gold purchased in Gulf compared to purchased in India. But I failed to find specification and proof, how to judge gold purity, please advice.
More important question...
2. Within Gulf, is there any difference in quality between local shops/souqs V/S showrooms like Damas/Joy Allukas/Malabar Gold etc.
My friend intends to buy gold worth 8K QAR and he asked me above two questions for which i did not have answer and one thing he did not have was QL account. :-)

Precisely Nigeria, a great country with great people....however many stories about Nigerians in Qatar are not positive, some are actually quite worrying.... But it's all cool...:). Great Nigerians are still out there. Some of which include Fela Kuit, Saro Wiwa, Chimamanda Adichie (you should checkout her books), Chinua Achebe, Ojuwku Odumegwe and many more.
Gold is a great security, I was in London once and literally ran out of cash, I had to travel on that day. I remembered a Gold necklace given to me by my mother, I simply took it to an exchange and got cash for it....From that day, I never underestimated the power of Gold.
I will really love to learn more, and when I am ready to buy I will ask you for advise...When I have questions, I will also ask you.
I will email you now.
@rsandlin, Yo! You know a lot about Gold.
How did you get to learn so much?
How can I learn more about Gold? Are there books you can recommend? Or Videos? Or Website Forums?
You also posted some Mathematical stuff on here.
Well done! And thanks for sharing.
Quality of gold is measured in carats. 24 carat gold is considered to be pure gold and usually this is available in the shape of biscuits. These biscuits have a seal on it and come in various weights. Pure gold is very soft and usually not suitable for making jewelry as designs cannot be made and then they will break easily. To make the gold hard so that jewelry can be made out of it, some alloy is added. As such you may find jewelry of 22 carat gold, 21 carat gold, and 18 carat gold in the market. The more the alloy added the lesser the gold content and the stronger will be the jewelry. While buying gold jewelry, you can ask the shopkeeper about the carat and he will tell you. Also, at some place in the jewelry the carat is also embossed and if you look carefully you will find it in fine print. I do not think there is any difference in quality of gold between shops. As for your questions regarding the quality of gold between the Gulf and India, I cannot say much. However, whenever I have sold jewelry in my home country which I bought from here, the gold shop dealers immediately recognized the jewelry was from overseas and locally made, This may possibly be from the designs and craftsmanship. Trust this give you some information from the little knowledge I have in this field.
