God is Not Dead

...or so says this woman here:

Her article may be of some interest to those of us occasionally embroiled in debates around religion and secularism. I think some of the things she says are excellent, some of them badly made and some of them very untrue. Interesting though.
Ta,
Joe.
seen this article the third time now in QL
I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here
Than a whole truck load when I'm gone
An interseting article, it quotes some facts which are known but then takes these facts and uses them to support a theory which is not true or actual. People in europe are not returning to God or suddenely found he exists, Catholics are being pulled back to their original roots and beliefs which were founded thousends of years ago.
You must first understand who is leading the Catholic church and the dilemas the church faces in todays world.
Pope Benedict is a "hard Line" Catholic, as Cardinal Ratzinger he was in charge of the most influencial council in the Catholic Church under Pope John Paul. As Cardinal Ratzinger, the Pope often stated his rejection of any change in Curch Theology in regard to any issues which todays world has, such as Birth Control etc. We must not forget that Cardinal Ratzinger was and still is one of the hard line catholic theologists.
Under the leadership of Pope Benedict the Catholic Church has been called to return to its roots and beleifs. The Church's dilema is that it cannot accept the chamges within the world as this would mean having to accept a change in its basic teachings. The Church has had to accept that it is loosing its followers but to compensate this it is attempting to firm up its core and retain it.
The increase of Pilgrims is not that there are more comverts it is more that the call to the roots of the church has lead to an increase in Pilgrims who which to show their beleif in actions rather than words
adey...people moved across the Bering Strait during sever cold Conditions?
And do you believe that? Man cannot survive a month in severe cold conditions and to consider that he did that, without proper clothing, food, transportation & housing is just unbelievable.
Alfred Wegener theorised the Continental Drift Theory based upon "identical fossils in geological strata that are now separated by oceans". -Which could have easily happened during The Great Flood.
The Flood story is told in a lot of religious scriptures /cultures eg:Bible/Koran/Torah, Epic of Gilgamesh, Sumerian epic, Story of Manu (Hinduism -Sanskrit), Chinese, etc.
Ancient World Maps show world almost as a continent surrounded by the oecan (Pangaea). The Scientist consider this to be an absolute blunder when those very ancient men had accurate knowledge of Astrology, Astronomy, Calculus etc.

Also I will add that "Flag Bearers of the Religion" (any religion) are not teaching us the Scriptures. Not only that they are also confusing & misleading us. Why?
Neither does it do good to try to make sense of the Old, Terse, Multi-lingual-translated text at the first glance. Thankfully, today there is a lot of material available on the internet. This is the hardwork one will have to go through to understand it.
here are some more 'religious' nutjobs :D offering as much proof (ie none)
as there is for Adam etc
seriously this is no spoof:
JM2007 - The break up of Pangea was way before the time of humans. So no contradiction in saying people moved across the Beiring Strait during an Ice Age

Knights Templars are Freemasons.
Theoratically they are supposed to be the enimies of "believers of christ". They are also believers of the Race thing.
Many of the religions have been infliterated by them & turned up side down.
Cain was the 1st Freemason, Nimrod was another. Usually they are builders of gigantic buildings in accordance to astrology etc. Today they are building great & gigantic Buildings one eg - statue of Liberty. They are well spread out in all walks of life. Thus if a Co-mason builder needs funds he gets it from a Co-mason financer at a very low rate of intrest etc.
What I m getting to is if you say that the enemy was never your enemy then you have joined the enemy.
Further proof is that they are politely discussing 'spiting on the cross' being not-blasphemous!!!
So is it ok for Christians to Spit on the Cross? (dont shoot the messenger)
jack ...... I don't see your point now. I'm not good at pope sayings though :D
Some are Wise ... Some are ...Otherwise
Ok Frog...but what about Panzer Cardinal..(Pope Benedict) gracefully accepting a book in which Pope Clement V says "Knight Templars were innocent......plus spiting on the cross, denying Jesus, kissing on the AS$, navel & mouth of a Knights Templar" cannot be considered serious blasphemy.
Thats where we are being led.
jack,
The pope was a human , and he was all the time under the pressure of the secular fanatics :D I will still respect him for rejecting condoms as a counter to AIDS he insisted on urging abstinence and marital fidelity to stop the spread of such a disease:).
Some are Wise ... Some are ...Otherwise
Frog ...the irony is that when he (PJP-II) did that ...he almost gave away his "Job"....
Since :
If he doesnt believe in Adam & Eve he doesnt believe in Bible, & since he doesnt believe in bible he doesnt have to have the "christian attention".....so the Church ceases to exit...and so does his "Position".
am not impressed at all make some sense :?
:D

The problem with religions is people are led away from the scriptures...."The ones said to be given to them by God".
These scriptures are replaced with "Views of the priest of how the religion should be" & "Some Hymns, prayers etc".
I wonder howmany read & understand the Koran.
I wonder howmany read & understand the Bible.
I wonder howmany read & understand the Vedas.
etc...
Its because of not having a through knowledge of the Scriptures of not only ours but also of others we come not only into conflict with each other but also misunderstanding.
I can say for sure not one out of 100,000 Hindus ever read the Veda, yet they are provoked to say "Garve se kaho Hum Hindu hai" (aggressively "say with pride you are an Hindu").
Same also for each and every religion.
Today Wicca / Witchcraft is the fastest spreading religion or way of life!!!
jack :) would you please take time to read us as we did :) You may find more interesting things than those of pope Jhon Paul II :)
Some are Wise ... Some are ...Otherwise
Another wow for ALexa :)
Letting people interpret religion as they like ? Do you think all people are able to do that ? and....let's imagine they can ... the world then would be in such a chaoatic state . It's as if you say ' let's give people the right to interpret law on their own will' ??? are you sure you want to see the results ?
Some are Wise ... Some are ...Otherwise
Even Pope John Paul believes in evolution....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_John_Paul_II:
In an 22 October 1996 address to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Pope John Paul II reaffirmed the Church's openness to the theory of evolution:
"In his encyclical Humani Generis (1950), my predecessor Pius XII has already affirmed that there is no conflict between evolution and the doctrine of the faith regarding man and his vocation, provided that we do not lose sight of certain fixed points...(John Paul II, Message to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences on Evolution).
Reminds me of the Emperor with no clothes.
jack,
it's all about misinterpretation. I believe most of religions are "good" and they include more ethics than any other earthly codes, but people tend to interpret religions to their advantage rather than seek truths. It's the same case for laws created by humans :)
Another example is that of Flat Earth as being from the Church & Bible when no where in it is a Flat Earth mentioned
Some are Wise ... Some are ...Otherwise
Wow ngourlay ..... muppets ? isn't it a too strong word? I feel like you're falling into your own trap ... value judgements? don't you think like most of people that they're free to chose ? anyway... I'll reexamine that article .....to be continued .

Its is true.... there is a move to " eradication of religion".
Usually by showing science.
On one hand Scientist say World was once one Continent:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pangaea
...and then conveniently slip it aside & say Man crossed the Bering strait. When it was not necessary to, as they had populated accross Pangea before it split into 7 continents during the Tower of Bable.
They throw away eligible/ understable written records (which can be cross checked with numerous other official or non-offical records) of the scriptures (Bible/Koran/Thora) as mere fairy tale & then go about Deciphering writings on Bablyion inscriptions & inscriptions on Tutukamen's Grave and teach us about it in History.
Darwins theory is another example. A very lame theory. But on the other hand the theory of Adam & Eve is never taught, except in religious teachings.
Why?
If Theories are to be taught why only one is taught and the other not even discussed?
Another example is that of Flat Earth as being from the Church & Bible when no where in it is a Flat Earth mentioned.
The Alpha course is aimed at people on the brink of emotional collapse. It's the Christian equivalent of dianetics. Trekking across Spain on pilgrimage, and wheeling your unfortunate relations to Lourdes is not Christianity - it's voodoo and new-ageism. Awful, woolly mindedness. The sort of people who say "I know there's something or someone controlling the universe, but I don't know who or what it is." Muppets.
Alexa ,
No offense , but..... did you really read the article ? I think it would be much better for any debate to include people that give themselves time to read thouroughly the article.
Such a statement "People can decide themselves what they want to believe in, with neither the state's or anybody else's interference."
is really shallow. Sorry....
Some are Wise ... Some are ...Otherwise
I think Europe is doing well in fashion LOL!
Good afternoon Jowelliams ,
Thanks mate, I was really bored before reading that article. It's quite interesting. Not very accurate, but worth while reading. I'll take a while to read it again and again , and we may have a talk :) I'm also curious to know what are those things you qualified as excellent, those badly made and those which you considered very untrue.
To start the debate I would say that the following statement is quite true , though I wonder what are those new shackles she talked about .......
"Modernity broke shackles of gods, tradition, and family and created new ones. In its iron cage the individual turned into a tiny insignificant cog in a machine over which s/he has no control. Stripped of the protection of relatives, clan, church, and increasingly welfare state, s/he stands naked at the mercy of the market and its rampant forces. "

I posted this three times. I hate computers and it seems they hate me back. I have a feeling I can't win this particular fight either.
