Give the children of Syria a chance!

I am very moved by the face of many youth that have been suffering enormously to achieve their desire of freedom and dignity.

A child is dead
('Long live the President')
her mother too
who lived just long enough to see
the bullet pass through infant flesh
and paint a bloodied picture on the wall.

The mother barely felt the knife
that traced a pattern in her skin
(held by the ghosts of men)
her screams, her outstretched arms
were for the death of innocence.

All I’m saying is give the children of Syria a chance!

Dear MarcoNandoz-01

Of course... Syria has much less oil than Libya does, plus, it is bordering the "Baby of the West" that occupies the Syrian Golan Heights since 1967. All this makes it a very sensitive place to attack because it can badly harm their neighbors with its missles that can carry germ and chemical warheads. If they feel badly cornered, they will NOT hesitate to use them against the aggressor and/or against Israel. That is why, neither the NATO nor Turkey is in a hurry to punish the Syrian regime. Finally,do not forget that 3 major powers are standing by it, that is: Russia, China, & Iran.

The only people being given a chance so far have been the Syrian regime. The Arab League just ignored this whole situation early on, sending in monitors and convening big summits that resulted in little more than glorious statements.

If you really want to get rid of someone, talkfests aren't going to achieve it.

The US is always told that they "intervene" and "invade" and usually they can't afford it financially. But see what happens when they don't - who else in the world is really willing to step up and help? I don't see India or Pakistan or Egypt or the GCC with all their supposed military might there to help anyone.

Birt/Moz : There is a very credible theory coming from people with a good understanding of Arab politics that some GCC key players are behind what is going on & that they are actively undermining the government by stirring up , arming & fueling the current crisis.

One has to ask who has the most to gain from what is going on ....the hatred between the Saudis & both Syria & Iran is well known..

A few dead kids means little to the Russians and the Chinese, who want to maintain the status quo. As for the Americans, if they intervene they are blamed if they do nothing they are blamed.

Fight the war by proxy. Arm the rebels and block weapon shipments getting through.

The Syrians now have a shipment of Russian attack helicopters and they can kill lots of civilians. The playing field needs to be levelled as in Libya. It may end up with the disintergration of Syria into seperate states but that is better than holding together what they have now.

There are games within games within games in Politics. The Turkish Jet issue is an example. the Turks admitted that it "strayed" into Syrian airspace. Syria says it was shot down in Syrian airspace, the Turks say it was in international waters.

My personal perception is that there is more to it than meets the eye - especially with Turkey decideding to involve NATO and today announcing that it is moving air defence systems to the border. (Surely they were there already)

Getting back to Syria. Someone obviously is already arming the rebels and providing logistical support.

I would rather that we didn't involve ourselves any further..

Brit: Well, the Syrian government needs to be taken down! We have been emphasizing that for more than a year now, they torture their own people, they shoot a Turkish jet in international territories and then blame Turkey for it. I am strictly against a war between Syria and Turkey, it would have catastrophic consequences for the entire region, but someone needs to take action against the Syrian government. The vital question is.. how do you fight the government of a country without the loss of innocent lives? The loss of innocent lives is inevitable either way! I would want Turkey to get into Syria, take the Syrian rebels aside and fight with them against the government and the Syrian military. But yet, it's a very complex matter.

I sense another hornets nest. If Turkey gets involved, then that means NATO will come in - reminds me of shades of Afghanistan.

Where do we go then ?

The actions of the GCC have so far proved ineffective.

Perhaps Turkey will be able to do something more meaningful?

A tragedy unfolding before our eyes. What do we do. I personaly don't believe that "intervention" , especially by the West is the answer. I would rather that the Syrians themselves or the Arabs took care of this...
