Getting tons of freebies on points in Qatar!

A lot of us are always deal-hunting. We talk to our friends to get the scoop on deals or discover them on social media and then we go out to enjoy the savings. The other side of deal-hunting is getting things for free. Honestly, there are so many point programs now out there, that if you’re going to spend your money, you may as well get something good in return.

I am an ardent point collector. If I have to spend the money, why not collect some freebies too?  Now, I am not bragging here, but I have enjoyed free vacations, plane tickets, meals, food, and cruises, on points alone!

Yes, it’s true.

Here are some popular point programs in Qatar - by NO means is this list extensive, just a few to get you started on your deal-hunting, point-redeeming journey.

First, Qatar Airways Privilege Club.  I always lament I joined this one too late! If you ever find yourself on a Qatar Airways flight, sign-up for free to their loyalty program and start collecting points. The airlines often has oodles of promos to give you extra points too. Especially, if you have a family flying, you collect points even faster. Don’t miss out!

Nojoom points from Ooredoo - okay, this has been very rewarding for me because I am always overspending on my plan - so I need to sort that out. Regardless, over time you can collect vouchers for Landmark Mall, Chilis, and many other local favorites. Granted, you need to spend to collect, but you may as well make sure you are registered so you can redeem your freebies.  Come on, surely there is something you would like for free at Landmark? As you collect more points you can start redeeming a higher QR value with less points.

Credit Card points. Many banks are now offering you points for the money spent on your credit card. Thus, people make every purchase on their card so they can redeem the points. Definitely shop around and try to find a card that doesn’t charge you an annual fee and gives you points with riyals spent. Again, it’s money you are already spending, so why not get something back?

Hotels!  Almost all chains offer a loyalty scheme, some better than others.  Watch for point expirations and redemption levels.

There is also the Shukran cards, you can redeem points at many stores, like City Lifestyle, Home Centre, and a plethora of clothing and shoe stores. If you’re a big shopper, it is best to collect this card.

Even Argo’s Tea has a loyalty card program, and I have already redeemed two free drinks.  It’s my go-to place if I have to meet someone. So keep your eye out at your favorite places.

And one for the ladies, if you like cosmetics and perfumes, don’t forget to join Sephora’s loyalty program, as they offer a free gift when you reach certain point levels.

The only hitch is, sometimes, while you start collecting these points you do become loyal (which is the whole point) and might find yourself spending more, while there are better deals present, to get the points. So be careful, never make points your goal; get them, use them, collect them, but don’t spend MORE to get them. That defeats the purpose.

Speaking of freebies - QL is giving away a 2 night getaway to Salalah, Oman :)

@Wild Turkey: I don't agree with you. I didn't know some of the things she's mentioned. So for me, it was an informative article. And it's nice to know that she's trying to promote businesses. I'm sure you're in Qatar for pilgrimage?

She has a problem. However, MM should get tons of freebies for his QL points! Nothing? So, it's all a farce just trying to promote businesses. Actually her posts should all be in 'Classified'.

There is not a single restaurant Canadianrunaway has not been to, not a place she has not explored, not a scheme she has not availed, not a privilege card she has not tried, not a tea stall she has not been to, not a country she has not visited, not a hotel she has not checked in, not a mall she has not gone for shopping…..now what is left -moon and starts. Maybe that will be included in her next post.
