It seems many of the new hotels being opened are dry, like the Grand Regency, Millenium, Movenpick Suites - as far as I know they don't have bars, and the only place to drink at Al Sharq is in the cigar lounge.
The management there are Lebanese and the people are friendly. The prices are quite good and the place looks fine.
The location is ok, if you are coming from Al-Sadd to Merweb Hotel take the traffic straight and you will see the hotel in front of you. If you are coming from Ramadah Traffic Light, go straight and you will find a traffic light in front of you, go straight and when you reach the one after this one, go to the right to see the hotel in front of you. If you are coming from the traffic light near Hamad Hospital, go straight and turn to the left to find the Hotel in front of you.
It looks like an apartment building turned into a hotel. It's new though. Central location across from Al-Sadd plaza on C-ring road. Restaurants, Ramada and Merwebb are just a few minutes taxi ride away.
