When in Dubai, a young girl in abaya rang my doorbell and asked for money. I gave her some but she was arguing it was not enough and immediately a young boy popped up from behind my door. He kept his foot and blocked the door so that I don't close it, while laughing all the time.It was than that I noticed other girls with him at other door of the floor who were conversing with him and laughing as well. I was very young at that time and felt intimidated.
Nonetheless that episode did not discourage me and I continued giving alms, until something similar happened. This time I managed to close the door but within seconds I could hear the group banging on my door loudly and they kept pressing the door bell continuosly.
I always encountered this, in my house and at the office, and take note, the same lady, I told her to find a job and not to do this, she just shrug her shoulder and even insisting to see the company modir........why they dont look for a respectable job rather than to beg/ask alms.

I had met a women.. in Abaya... And Talking in pure Arabic.. tht was my first week here,,,, Didn understand a word... THk god I didn know she was asking for money... Others told me so...
But she didn look like she needed to do tht at all.. I thought asking for phone to call up someone... but didn have a phone then.... :-)
I have seen a beautiful Lady asking for alms in my friends office.
She was wearing a very good Abaya and had put some good perfume..!!
After we gave some amount to tat lady she approched other offices to get the same. After collecting the amount - A car (4x4 ) came to pick her up and she left...:(
when i used to work in some bank in D-Ring, whenever I pull out the parking evry morning, there's a man & a woman (in abaya), theyre presenting me a letter, and theyre askin for money....At first I just said sorry I dont understand and left...I aks the security what was that abt, and he told me that theyre askin for money (it was like someone died) so my conscience hit me, I felt bad! I went out again and gave some amount.
Looking thru the window glass of the bldg, I saw the Bank Manager gave them a good sum!
Here's the catch! they were there again the next day! They dont seem to remember me, again giving me the piece of paper.............. Thinking to myself, the money they got wasnt enough....
But seeing them there for more than 2 weeks doing the same thing every morning! Thats when I felt conned!!
When i was new in Doha I noticed a Woman and a girl both inside Abaya near the elevator of a building. They approached me and said something in arabic. I only grasped a few words like myskeen and philistine and mafee fulus. And with my limited Arabic vocabulary I still knew what they were telling me. I noticed that the young girl was extremely beautiful and the Abaya was good too. I did not know what to do as I did not know Arabic. I only shrugged my shoulder and made off using the staircase!
Or maybe Prada was given to them by some rich folks. Beggers are flashing them at us to make us feel ashamed for being stingy. Only giving away a few hundred Riyals, to them ..lol

Perhaps DeeDee's option is best, but remember you gave for a worthy cause..

Help them by giving alms is OK, but wat intentiona and help is tat by picking them up from the Hotel Car Park ??...:)
One should help all the needy .. either the Prada carrying wearing an Abaya or the Prada carrying wandering in the Hotel car parks..
Like Brit said it is the intention that you are trying to help them..

Does not matter whether they are carrying Gucchi, Prada or whatever. You are giving with good intentions and you will be rewarded for it.

Just a thought, beggars mumble Arabic words and dress in abayia or something similar, but they're not necessarily Arabs, if at all.
