Football: DNA tests confirm Ronaldo’s son

SINGAPORE: Brazilian superstar footballer Ronaldo said DNA tests have confirmed he is the biological father of a five—year—old boy living in Singapore.

The former three—time world player of the year announced this through his twitter account, "ClaroRonaldo".

He had earlier said he would take full responsibility if the test proved positive, and appears to have welcomed the knowledge of his fourth child named Alexander.

Ronaldo was a prolific striker in the mid—1990s, having played for European giants Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid and won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002.

The mother, Michele Umezu, has been trying since 2009 to have Ronaldo recognised as the father and is demanding child support.

She said she first met Ronaldo at a party in Tokyo in 2002 celebrating Brazil’s success at the World Cup.

Ronaldo returned to Tokyo in 2004 during a tour of Real Madrid and she became pregnant by him at that time.

Ronaldo already has three children. He has a 10—year—old son with his ex—wife and two younger daughters, one who is a year old and the other eight months, with his current wife, Bia Anthony.
