Today was a very sad and tragic day in Qatar.
My heart and respect goes out to those who fought to save lives, to those who are , right now, fighting for their lives in the hospital, and to those who have lost loved ones. May they rest in peace.
There may be a lot that can be said about this tragedy, but I think this should wait until tomorrow.
Today let us pay respect to those who have passed away, to those who fighting for their lives.
Let us please respect their dignity.

The proper way to mourn our dead is to seek justice for them. My those responsible as a result of their greed and negligence be justly punished for their crimes.

UPDATE | 7:26pm:

A little more detail on the deaths. Of the 13 children killed, seven were girls and six were boys.

The fire reportedly started in Gympanzee, the children’s nursery at the mall, but isn’t clear what set it off.

Ambulances reportedly arrived at the scene in only eight minutes, and some 180 emergency workers were deployed to deal with the fire.

Also, there were 17 people injured, mostly emergency workers.

UPDATE | 7:16pm:

The press conference started very late. It’s under way now.

The Minister of Health was just speaking in Arabic. We understand he said 13 children were killed in the fire today, along with 4 teachers and two Civil Defense workers. That’s a total of 19 deaths.

Yes today is a day that we all must truly put aside all our personal grudges and issues and mourn for all those innocent loss of lives.

As a mother I can never even begin to imagine the grief and pain experienced by those who lost children. As loving parents one never likes to live to bury their child.. Allahu Must3aan.

MOI on twitter now says 4 teachers, 2 civil defence, 7 girls and 6 boys.

A great and avoidable tragedy.

Sad that there was no mention of anything on the 6pm QBS news.

This is a tragical day!

One of our friends (Spanish) identified his daughter amongst the dead.

If that wasn't bad enough, another colleague from another Spanish company identified his three sons dead!!!

They are both speechless and in a state of shock.

I have always predicted that this mall was unsafe!

I have always tried to detect any Fire Alarm or Smoke Detectors or even a Fire Fighting system on the ceiling, but never seen any!

It seems the looks of the sky are more important than having fire alarm and fire fighting systems!!!
