and that's how he/she will be depicted/judged by other posters as a QLER. He/she's free to say what he wants.

What caused this fracas is one's perception/comprehension of what was actually written...

thus FREEDOM of SPEECH could invoked in this matter.

One can find it funny...thus 'black/dark humor'

One would perceive it as offensive...because of belief, religion...etc

One would mince it and attach it to another topic making it catastrophic when its really...in actuality NOT! (my opinion)

HOWEVER the response of another poster of bodily harm is UNCALLED FOR...but this poster could be a troll, perhaps?

flor1212

who also got death threats because she offended the locals due to a very current events she criticise?

I don't agree either about it, but it their mentality. You stir the burning fire, take the heat. As I said, two subject Moza in a wrong time make a "black humor" will create such reaction.

I rememeber you threatening me also with harm through your husband when I made a comment which I also based on your comment! And I did apologize, on board and personally. But did you ever apologize for the threat? No.

By flor1212• 18 Jun 2012 23:25
flor1212

Nomerci, the issue is Moza not the second comment. Now for the second comment, Ok, I agree, he needs to apologize, so what, you wait for him first before Moza admit her mistake?

first violator here is mimh. if you want rules to be applied then apply it fairly. not according to your whims and fancies....

That those of us defending MIMH have not told the likes of flor or wirehead etc to apologise for any offence against free speech that we may feel. No, we are quite content for you to say your piece. The line is crossed when physical threats are imposed (and to a lesser extent denying sonmeone their say)as a reponse to a spoken/written comment.

We are being logically consistent.

nomerci

No Flor, IMHO moza has nothing to apologize for. If being distasteful was a reason for apology, I'd say there is not ONE QL user who does not have to apologize.

I am with adey on this one.

What I find VERY disturbing is that the person threatening to burn and kill another user is, seemingly, tolerated on QL.

By anonymous• 18 Jun 2012 21:56
anonymous

Yes flor, that defence is often used in murder cases.

Yes your honour i did kill him but he started it, he used some bad words.

Oh, why didn't you say. Case dismissed!

By nomerci• 18 Jun 2012 21:56
nomerci

An apology is defo in order. From the one who threatened with bodily harm.

I see this person has not been banned by the Moderators. I also realize that QL has become disturbingly one sided. But is QL now tolerant to death threats to its users?

Wow, this is an all time low for QL.

It's a bit sad really, the meaning wasn't hidden it was a reposte to the dress unsluttly campaign being waged.

However I do like how you bring perception into it, of course one persons perception is their reality. When you use that logic you can infer offence into pretty much everything!

flor1212

stirring something of a subject dearly debated nowadays.

The second comment was uncalled for definitely but that is just a reaction from your provocative comment. You started it.

By wirehead• 18 Jun 2012 21:52

i do love black humor. a joke can be dark but still within the bounds common decency. but i don't think moza's is. hers is simply distateful. cynicism and sarcasm is different from being tactless and offensive. i don't believe there's malicious intent though. just mindless rambling.

By flor1212• 18 Jun 2012 21:49
flor1212

your view.

It's the current events. But of course you will reason back. So no use, we leave it this way. Encourage "black humor"?

Did she meant really as black humor or you're the one saying it. You accused others of relating it to current events and yet you want to relate it also as "black humor". Are we not both entitled to our perception?

By anonymous• 18 Jun 2012 21:48
anonymous

If you want an example of what I mean look no further than the first guy. You think it's offensive because of the fire but he is upset at the burn all abayas, he couldn't care less about the people that died in the fire but god forbid women are not correctly dressed.

By anonymous• 18 Jun 2012 21:46
anonymous

And gold star goes to Adey.......

No flor, no apology because you start with one and the next time someone objects to something (that would be every second thing i write) you say they are demanding another apology. Then apologies turn into witch hunts and before you know it, we are all screaming for the perpetrator to be killed or to be made an example of.

By adey• 18 Jun 2012 21:43
adey

As whatever one posts may offend someone.Someone may find all your posts offenssive, does that mean you have to show restraint all the time, and not post? No, of course not, that's just silly. Bt all means critise, make your feeling known, but you, I and everyone do not have a right to be protected from offence.

Everyone has the right to feel offended, everyone has the right to give offence - but it is the intent that matters.

There was no malicious intent by MIMH. In fact there was not even a link to the Villagio fire, as this was about something else......that link was dremprt up/imagined by someone else. No one can be held responsible for the imaginings of every Tom, Dick or Harry.

Where the line is crossed is when someone incites or blatently threatens physical harm on someone. That's a tangable threat and not mixed up with the vaguries of offence and taste.

By flor1212• 18 Jun 2012 21:29
flor1212

"sorry for those who got offended" finish. Black humuor also offends some, not all definitely (like you). But what about the others who are offended. What about those victims family in the Vilaggio tragedy, the wounds are still fresh, do you think they will see it as black humor? Being sensitive to the feeling others will not downgrade you a little. Will a sorry meant so much to her as to the hurt she inflicted to those offended parties?

Joke is a joke. We all make one, but again, be sensitive. Practice restraint.

By adey• 18 Jun 2012 21:23
adey

She uses a perfect example of 'Black humour' and has noyhing to apologise for.

From Wiki on Black Humour:

The term black humor (from the French humour noir) was coined by the Surrealist theoretician André Breton in 1935 to designate a sub-genre of comedy and satire in which laughter arises from cynicism and skepticism, often relying on topics such as death

In black humor, topics and events that are usually regarded as taboo, specifically those related to death, are treated in an unusually humorous or satirical manner while retaining their seriousness; the intent of black comedy, therefore, is often for the audience to experience both laughter and discomfort, sometimes simultaneously.

The purpose of black comedy is to make light of serious and often taboo subject matter, and some comedians use it as a tool for exploring vulgar issues, thus provoking discomfort and serious thought as well as amusement in their audience.

Black comedy might include an element of irony, or even fatalism.

Like seriously? What is the world coming too! You threaten to burn a person alive for a comment about abayas being burnt by people against the "Article 57" ??Audubillah!

But I agree with Flor, given the fact that it's just been a few weeks since the Villagio tragedy and many of us are yet to recover from the shock and trauma of it all,and the ongoing paranoia and fear about safety, jokes about any occurring fires is bound to bring about negative reactions, and not everyone will be all matured and tolerant. The old saying comes to mind "there is a time and place for everything"

Still doesn't warrant death threats though!!
