Favourite Dishes

By Alumnar

This topic is for ex.ex.expat as I can hear his stomach grumble miles away!

Let's talk about our favourite dishes. What is your favourite dish? What do you like to cook? Do you use any different ingredients which positively change the end taste of that dish?

I cooked a roast last night for our anniversary: roast butternut squash, sage & onion stuffing, roast beef, mash potato and gravy. It was delicious!

My favourite dish is traditionally Portuguese and is Seafood Rice :)

Come and share your culinary experiences :)

LOL expat, nice to hear she wants you to grow old together - just like hubby and I feel. We are quite 'round' and we both know we have to lose weight - keep trying but this place is just not helping at all. Need to get our heads around it though...

Time to sleep.

Thanks everybody for a great on-line conversation and fabulous contributions! Amazing how lunch plans came out of it :))) really looking forward to it!

Let's just revive this topic tomorrow and make plans here and via pm :)

Good night to everybody x :)

Let's keep the event on this topic. I would like a good group to meet, not a huge group. We can exchange contact info via pm - saeed, if you please start a pm between the QL'ers Who would like to join us and others who you think might like to come. NO troublemakers! We will have our daughter with us. Meeting time... Say 1,30pm so everybody has time for prayers and to travel to Wakra?

I also went to one in gharaffa when I lived here before the Asian games. I couldn't tell you what the names of the dishes were but it was great. I even loved the okra and eggplant dishes, which were never my favorites when I was growing up. Probably something to do with the onions, tomatoes, garlic and peppers ;)

Wiener Schnitzel!!! How I miss that dish...

True about the lack of ingredients here - specially the main 'ingredient' for Schnitzel!

Sauerkraut and Eisbein... Ohhhh...

Crispy battered cod fish with chips and mushy peas!

Tandoori prawns (just how they do them in the Chingari Restaurant in the Ramada Hotel) with vegetable coconut curry and naan bread...

Tom Yam Kung soup

Boiled eggs in creamy mustard sauce with roasted onions and mashed potatoes

Wiener Schnitzel with warm potato salad

White asparagus boiled, with bearnaise sauce and new baby potatoes

Goulash with "semmelknoedel"

Italian veal escalope with a light lemon sauce and meditarenian vegetables

and so on and so forth...;)

Sadly I can't cook to many of those dishes here as many staple ingredients are not available and/or of minor quality.
