Father charged with murder of daughter, 11
The father of an 11-year-old girl who was forced to walk 10 miles in the snow to her mother's house on Christmas day was today charged with her murder.
Robert Aragon is accused of letting Sage die from hypothermia when he ordered her and her brother Bear to walk to their mother's house after their truck became stuck in a snowdrift.
Aragon, 55, of Jerome, Idaho, stayed put and attempted to free the truck.
Robert Aragon, in court above, has been charged with second-degree murder after daughter Sage died of hypothermia.
He has also been charged with felony injury to a child.
The children's mother, JoLeta Jenks, alerted the police after the family failed to arrive on Christmas day, and a search effort was launched shortly before 10pm that night.
A statement from the sheriff's office told how Sage's body was found by search dogs at 2am the following morning. The child had been alone, barely visible under windblown snow, approximately 2.7 miles from the truck. She had been wearing a brown down coat, black shirt, pink pyjama bottoms and tan snowboots.
Bear, 12, was found separately wearing only long underwear, according to Blaine County Sheriff Walt Femling.
He said that the boy had been delusional from hypothermia, and had discarded his jacket, trousers and shoes. He was treated at a nearby hospital.
Aragon was emotional during the short hearing, and banged his head on the defendant's table as Judge Mark Ingram read the charges against him.
As Ingram read out the charge of second-degree murder, Aragon said: 'Oh my God' and banged his head on the table a final time.
very well said amoud.. you are right when you said that sometimes we really jump into conclusion so fast (not to mention being judgemental) that we fail to see the real score of the situation.. i said "we" because i do the same sometimes.. I am not saying that those who condemned the "father" for his actions were wrong, as mj said what was written is the respective statement of one's personal view and expression of one's analysis.. let us just put it this way - it was a tragic event and a great lost for the grieving family, especially it was christmas time..
happy new year to all..
mj, I am not saying that it is merely my opinion, I am just saying that perhaps suggesting he is the devil incarnate and that he should rot in jail are a bit over the top considering the factors involved in something like this. Being from the Phillipines you may not be aware of the weather we face in the Great White North.

say what you like,...it's your opinion right...
Thats just it mj, who said it is warmer? Did you know that if a truck is stuck in snow, and the exhaust is covered you will die of carbon monoxide poisoning if you are in the vehicle?
Like I said, dont jump to conclusions. _____________________________________________________

he could've just let the kids stay in the truck where it's warmer while he tries to free the truck...
mj, I think he intended to get the truck out before they actually walked 10 miles. The kids may have started to walk because they were giving him a hard time about missing Xmas at their Moms so he thought this would buy him some time.
You guys... sometimes you are all so quick to jump to the worst conclusion. Have a little faith in humanity sometimes.

All of you assume that he knew he was putting his kids in danger. I am pretty sure his intent was not malicious, and there was no mention of the temperature in the article. I totally disagree with tess' comment on this one, sometimes the best intentions have the most fatal outcomes. I lived all my life in a place with severe weather conditions and I can tell you that the weather can change in a heartbeat. When the kids set out it may have been alright.
This is an unfortunate situation but I think there should be more read into this than neglect.

maybe he did not get any survival course.. but hey, it's common sense that you shouldn't let anyone to walk in a weather like that...he forced her to walk 10 miles!! what the hell was he thinking....
Sad, tragic and senseless.. always stay together in this kind of situation we were taught in a survial course..really sad..

if he even had half a brain, he wouldn't even let his daughter go out there...
Totally agree - especially regarding the temperature.
If you're living life on the edge, you've got too much room.
my thoughts exactly.... :(
Negligence at it's worst form...
WTH was he thinking? This is negligence at its peak! I don't think he has any intention of killing his children; he's just a complete idiot! This guy has a very poor judgment. I wonder what SN have to say about this. )=
cheers,
paul
what a tragedy
