Family goes to court over hospital death
THE family of a woman who died in the maternity ward of the Women’s Hospital has gone to court alleging negligence on the part of the doctors, a source said.
The hospital authorities said they carried out a through investigation into the death of the woman and found nothing against the medical team.
The woman died on October 16 at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. The incident had left many who work in the labour and delivery unit deeply shaken because the deceased was an employee of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
According to the source, the relatives had complained of negligence on the part of doctors who attended to her case and rejected the findings of the investigation.
However, the source did not disclose the findings to Gulf Times because the case was in court, but said that nothing was out of place during the delivery as the medical team had followed proper procedures.
“Because we follow the international standards in all our services, if somebody dies or there are complications, we willingly carry out investigations to determine what went wrong, irrespective of whether the family complains or not. It’s just our way of ensuring quality management,” the hospital source said.
Meanwhile, hospital has urged people who may have complaints about the services to approach the authorities directly to register their grievances.
