Ezdan Towers Information Required

By timebandit

I have read some historic articles regarding Ezdan Towers, but I could do with some fresh information. I am looking for one month only somewhere for someone, and it sounds like it fits the bill. But before I go and book it, can anyone tell me if it is worth QR 5,000 a month, or do you know somewhere better for that price bearing in mind it is one month only.

flor1212,

Don’t be offended, everybody lives in the same world, there is only 1 not 2 or 3 ;)

The loose use of the expression was related to the comment I was answering to.

"3rd world" is no longer used to classify a country's development status.

I believe the designation used now is "developing countries".

timebandit.

When you come from the corniche towards the airport, as soon as you pass under the Ras Abu Abboud viaduct, look on your right and you'll see a Malaysian operated serviced apartment (I don’t have the name or contact here). Amazing standards, excellent maintenance and service. The price is around 6K for a 1 bedroom apartment. They may have studios for less.

I recently visited both, and this place is worth it (equivalent to a 4 star hotel and includes breakfast).

Thanks...will definitely visit that place.

have third world standards? It's an expression to you but t is offensive to us who lives in what you called "third world countries".

Just say sub-standard rather that 3rd world standard!

KHATTAK,

the one above will be just fine.

please note that "3rd world" does not relate to any country in particular, its an expression used to indicate substandard / poor standard (you can find it any where in the world).

Nic really appreciated mate, but I am out of time. If I could call them in the next hour or two to get details then that would be fine. But I have no more time for research. And can't spare the time to try and locate the name of the building which would enable me to track down their phone number. This is why Ezdan is the only way forward for me at present.

Nic... Can you please recommend any 1st world Accommodation here or I'll have to move to some 1st World Country for a decent & safe living?

Well no. 3rd world stylish, not standard.

The toilets/lights/AC/internet/kitchen/shower/electricity etc all work fine. No vermin, no roaches, the drains work, they clean the place OK. The staff does not steal (I know because I once inadvertently gave them opportunity). For the price and location, it's fine. The bed is soft enough, the sheets changed, the towels washed.

I dont think the conditions are 'precarious'. I have heard a lot of horror stories before I visited it. It looks like the management changed or something - and they seem to try hard, though a lot of the staff is still useless. You keep trying till you end up with someone who can get stuff done and who speaks english.

The fire alarms function. I have wandered into the escape stairway (I sometimes use it when the elevators take too long) and they are accessible. So from what I can see, no safety concerns. However the place has 2000+ rooms. I have no problem believing that yours was sub-standard. As said, shop around.

Take it easy.

:)

Thanks Nic.... I appreciate your input. Thankfully this is only for one month. Where they win is convenience. 24 hours notice and you are in and on a month by month basis. I haven't managed to find anything else in the QR 5,000 price bracket that offers that. And I need the room tomorrow.

Jabba,

Its livable but as you put it, 3rd world standards.

Safety is a high risk.

The substandard management and maintenance don’t help the already precarious conditions.

Take care, while you are there ;)

The decoration is certainly a question of ...taste. It's third-world stylish I suppose. I try to ignore it and have put up some of my own. It aint the W.

Yes things are falling apart quickly (especially bulbs, I run through a few each month) but they replace them quickly.

Can't really comment on the safety. The fire alarm went off twice over the last three months for no discernible reason for about a minute each time.

corridors and elevators... about as pretty as can be expected (i.e. not much), somewhat dimly lit. Then again, I'm not camping out in the hallway.

timebandit,

Here is the link showing the original operator’s (Bavaria Hotels) withdrawn from the project:

http://www.onlineqatar.com/property/32-Bavaria-Hotels-withdraws-from-the-property-in-Qatar.htm

"Bavaria Hotels has moved out of the Bavaria City Suites Doha Property in Qatar, due to the inability of the contractor to deliver the projects within the required standards and timeline."

The finishing and the decoration are horrendous. It was a disaster project that failed to meet international standards and the original company (German) had to abandon it and posted a declaration on line that they in no ways have anything to do with the project.

I did visit it and was shocked by what I saw.

It looks nice only at a certain distance, once you approach the building, you'll start detecting the crap quality of its external wall panels. The low standard will be seen from the lobby, lifts all the way to the main corridors (jail / hospital alike) and finally the substandard furnishing and interior finishing.

This place would never be licensed to operate in a 1st world country for safety reasons. To entry some units, you need to close the door for the hall, in order to open the door of the unit - an enormous safety hazardous. If you go there you'll see what I mean!

The project was quickly finished with the owners’ (non qualified rich folk) choice of interiors and overall his enormous pressure, cutting corners (sadly on display now), just to show a very bad "finished" building during the Asian Games 2006.

I would not recommend, but go there and see it and if it suits your standards, good luck.

I live there. It's OK.

Good points:

- great location. right in west bay.

- gym, pool, sauna

- parking

- internet/electricity/water/everything else bills all in the same monthly bill. AC works fine.

- restaurants, hair salon (M/F), mini-mart all in-house

- staff is OK

- they clean your room twice weekly, change bedding and towels

- fully equipped kitchen(ette): dishwasher, oven, stove, fridge, freezer, microwave, cutlery, china, washing machine, ironing board, iron

- if anything breaks (bulbs, washing machine, plumbing), you can call reception, and they will send up an engineer or someone to fix the problem at any time of day.

Bad points:

- dont take the first room/apt you see. At the same price range they have better ones and worse ones. Have them show you around.

- rooms can be a bit dark-ish. Shop around, or (like me) go to citycentre across the street and get yourself a cheap lamp

- showers. You'll have to hold the shower head in your hand to not flood the bathroom. minor inconvenience.

- no power plugs in bathrooms. minor inconvenience.

- few power plugs (one on each wall). get yourself some extension cords and you're sorted.

TB, I stayed in Tower 2 for 3 months when I initially came to Doha, I had a great apartment and actually enjoyed staying there. Saying that, I know others who also stayed there but didn't have such a good experience there.

Thanks Tink I appreciate the help.

Brit yeah I have been quoted QR 5,000 for a one bedroom studio. But the good thing about them is they only require 24 hours notice to occupy.
