"bleu said I keep seeing these ...

I keep seeing these generalizations about Qataris, many of the expatriates seem to think we're all:

Uneducated.
Can't read or write.
Arrogant.
Stupid.

I'm not saying anything about driving, it's generally true, and I'm one of the offenders"

-copied this one form "the respect the Q" thread. am not really sure if bleu is asking "why"

but

why do you think qataris are still clueless and shocked when they here somethin neg. 'bout 'em. AMIDST THE THOUSANDS OF THREADS AND POSTINGS HERE OF THE SAME TYPE, IN ADDITION TO THE REAL LIFE DRAMA.

should we count the ways?

Not all Qatari's are that bad.. They are nice and friendly people too. I'm with Baldrick go to Kuwait and see for your self if you want arrogant, rude etc.

If you want arrogant go to Kuwait!

I have no problems with Qataris. Kind and gentle people in the main. Of course there are always bad apples but you can always ignore those.

Did you Google it first?

I don't like to tar everyone with the same brush and i find that most of the terrible drivers are of the south asian persuasion as well as locals. So its difficult to criticise just the locals. My own experience having been here for a few weeks and shortly headed back to the UK, is that certainly in the employment sector, there seem to be no rules or one rule for the general employees and another for the nationals. I've been treated appallingly with my contract of employment being changed without consent and fighting in-house arrogance of senior Qatari's means i have no fight left in me. I'm just telling it how it is - from what i've experienced.

Generally the one that are giving the Qatari's a bad rep aren't even Qatari at all. You gotta remember that their are alot of Iranians and a few other simular nationalities here that have Qatari Citizenship who parade around like they own the place and aren't exactly Quet about the whole "i am local, i am Qatari" blah blah.

I can honestly say i have never met a True Qatari that i have never got on with. I have always found them to be good people who are reasonably with held and self composing, but when you start them going you will have an excellent conversation.

On the roads? sorry i hate every single one of you when yer on the road lmao.

...we cannot say all Qataris are like that. I have met some really gentleman and nice ladies from this country.

But, I also agree, that sometimes some (or a lot if u want) qatari people (or people that just look like qatari, I am not going around asking for pasports) they just act really arrogant.

I think they still dont understand that this is a double side business, they are giving us money for our work, and we are helping them to build this country. Is just a matter of time, sooner or later they will understand. Meanwhile, just 2 choices: just stand them and try to make them understand or go home.

I've not found anyone offensive, no matter what nationality, in the 18 months or so that I've lived here in Doha.

Mind you, I'd be annoyed if anyone threw a brick through my window. Insha'allah so far that hasn't happened :D

I dunno if I am stirring shite here but you would think that if there are 1000's of posts perhaps a majority of people here have had some very traumatic experiences?

We as westerners all get lumped into one big war monger group. you can never get away from stereotypes, but generally something has happened somewhere to fuel the fire.
