Expat Appreciation Day!

amnesia
By amnesia

Alright, it's not an official day, but I just thought I'd say:

"Thanks to all the expats that come to Qatar, help to develop the country, give us more reason to improve, and contribute to this fast developing nation.

From my heart as a Qatari,
Thank You!"

Advanced Qatari class!

Seriously I have learnt to see a lot of things differently - things I was very ignorant about before I have had lots of opportunity to have my previous thinking challenged:

example:

a)arranged marriages

b)women's attire

c)alcohol

d) what is personal freedom?

e) polygamous marriages

f) collective thinking vs individual thinking

g) hospitality

h) social values in general

thanks for sparing a minute to thank the exaptriates. show them how much u owe them by behaving well towards them. most of the labourers are here because they love their family and they want to feed their family atleast 2 times a day. be;eive me, 90% of the expats wudnt love this place if it was for the money. i know people who work for 600 riyals! it just that they want bread for their family back home. lot of people spend days here thinking of their families. many have kids whom they havnt even seen... so take a little time to appreciate the workers here. they bulit qatar.

Thanks to both of you Amnesia and Diamond Girl ever so much. Your kind words and sentiments are truly appreciated.

I too have picked up quite a bit of Qatari Arabic over the years here, so let me too say in my own way; SHUKRAN JAZEELAN ALAY KUM. ANA EHAB QATAR WAJED.

@darude, sorry my friend, I've been in the UK for a while. Going to be in Qatar soon though :D

@HappyHappy, ma ga9artee ma3a kalamich ba3ad. Even if you came here with person intentions, you're still helping the country become a better place :D

@everyone else, It's my pleasure. It took only 2 seconds of my time, but I hope it made everyone feel good for the rest of the day (or I hope longer).

My father once told me, "people don't always notice the big things you do, it's the little things that can give you a small warm place in their heart" (Translated from Arabic)

Amnesia...and Diamond Girl. Its really nice to hear such words. I think this is a first?? for QL. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall anyone posting such a thing before.

I love this country, and its people. I consider myself part of the country having lived here many years, & so do the rest of my family, one of whom is now totally fluent in Qatari arabic, albeit with blonde hair and blue eyes.

You have a good Emir, with a good wife, and you can be proud of how you're progressing as a nation. Thanks for the opportunity to be part of it.

Gud on'ya. Amnesia (and DiamondGirl.)

As gorgeous your words are, as guilty they made me feel. Unfortunately, they caused me pain than content.

I am not intending to shock you my friend, but, Allah is my witness, I did not come here with the intention to contribute to improve Qatar.

Yes, I DO believe in good deeds, benefiting and non-harm of others. Being here in Qatar achieves the purpose of applying my knowledge and skills to help others, in the general sense.

Yet I came to this country for totally professional and personal reasons. To prove myself, take up more professional responsibilities, challenge myself and my society as a responsible independent Egyptian Muslim girl, defeat my anxiety of always wanting to feel protected and then the pay (although I’m well off back home).

I intended to work here for a few months to achieve the above, now it’s my third year, why? Because,as I always repeatedly say, I love this country and grateful.

I was offered to work with other countries, 2 offers are still on, with pay 75% more than what I earn now. I refused both because I am against the regime in both countries, and working there will only make me a true hypocrite. Here I am not feeling hypocrite at all. On the contrary, I am more inclined towards my client (Qatari Client) than towards my own company (foreign). I am working hard to implement their business requirements, to the fullest of my power and authority.

I participated, though African, in the Asian Games, initially, yet my heart was not totally dedicated to it. I think it is something about patriotism and eagerly wanting to see the flag of my country there.

Please do not fire at me, I was just thinking loudly and sharing my feelings towards your words that are still resonating in my head and heart.

Eish da3wa ma yseer chidi ya ryyal! Ana waied aheb getar, Allah yerhem waldaik we yselmek men kel shar.

I'm proud of you.

Salam

As a fellow Qatari(a) I would like to join Amnesia in thanking all the residents of Qatar for contributing to the development of my beloved country. We so much appreciate the talent, skills, experience, dedication and hard work of all. We have much further to go and many ways in which we must improve so insha'Allah we can go forward together.

I sincerely hope that you can take the good from our culture to enrich your own lives as we should take the good from your cultures to develop as good human beings.

Our peaceful and tolerant land has so much promise. It's an exciting future. Please consider Qatar your home and keep a space in your heart for it always.

Thanks a million Amnesia, your gratitude is truly appreciated. Yes, we are indeed guests in this country, but we've also made Qatar our adopted homeland. I have spent 28 years here and I consider this home. May Qatar grow to greater heights. More power, more prosperity to the people of Qatar.
