Employers must list penalties: ministry
Employers must list penalties: ministry

The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has said the country’s labour law commits employers with a workforce exceeding 10 to have a list of penalties for breaches of discipline.
“We commit each company that has more than 10 workers to have a penalty list, which includes disciplinary actions that should be (were) taken against workers and should be placed at a clear place in the company,” MoL said in an e-mail interview with Gulf Times.
“But this (the list) should be approved firstly by the Ministry,” MoL cautioned, in the context of employers going overboard while reprimanding staff.
“The MoL has prepared an expatriate workers guide which includes the rights and duties of workers according to the labour law, printed in Arabic and English. This has been distributed to the diplomatic missions and embassies of the majority workers’ origin countries,” MoL said.
“We are now printing it to be available in some other languages. An office has also been set up at the Doha International Airport to distribute these brochures to the workers arriving into the country,” MoL added.
In addition, the MoL has launched a hotline on which workers can lodge complaints.
An Emiri Decree last year gave the framework for the new structure of MoL.
“The Inspection Dept, which is tasked with monitoring the enforcement of labour laws and conducting regular and surprise checks at worksites, is ensuring employers comply with labour regulations and ministerial decisions. The Dept is also penalising and blacklisting companies,” MoL said.
According to the statement, MoL also publishes statistics on raids and inspection results every three months on its website.

i think the MOL should also put emphasis on workers who are not receiving their salaries on time. some companies here, i can mention a few who are delaying workers salaries for 5 months! WTF! these people have families back home!
