My Thai friend and I are planning to go to Egypt, 4N, 4D.
Kindly suggest a good itinerary plan to see of course, the Giza Pyramids, and other tourist spots, starting from Cairo.
You will be fine walking the streets anytime of the day/night....there are tourist police everywhere in case you have trouble. Just look for the white uniform! Yeah you will be harassed and it does get annoying. .....Just smile and with patience you will be fine. I found the Egyptians very friendly and funny (even though they try to rip you off any chance given)...just go with flow...one thing to be aware of is when you go to a restaurant. Some of them say there is no menu, thus no prices, and they will hit you with a massive bill for just buying a soft drink. Try to avoid these places and stick with the ones with menus. You will really notice the difference with the Arabs in Egypt compared to the Gulf Arabs....such a difference!! Have a wonderful time!
shav, its ok to wear sleeveless! Its safe to walk till early eve, like 8 - 9. I suggest you take a nile cruise, dinner with live entertainment including bellydancing. When I was there, I asked the hotel to get me an English speaking cab driver, could double up as a tour guide - dont forget to negotiate with the asking price though!
Bear in mind its an Islamic country so discretion with your clothing is appreciated. Its very much like here, expose some skin and you get unwanted male attention. Its generally safe to walk around downtown Cairo but traffic is sooooooo bad, 24 hrs! Look out for vehicles that come out of nowhere
Just telling it like it is, DaRuDe. Tough job getting the camel into the Khan el Khalili bazaar.
Careful with cabs, try not to take one right in front of the hotel (more expensive) and always negotiate the price before you get in - don't accept (what ever you want). And make a note of the cab number.
Four days really isn't much time to see much of Egypt. In that time you are probably better off staying in Cairo, as there is so much to do there alone!
The Valley of the Kings and Karnak is amazing....if you have more time I would suggest going south to Aswan to see Abel Simbel. Aswan is a lovely town....the Nile being so beautiful with sand dunes in the background.
U could visit Cairo, Luxor, and Alexandria. These are where the treasures of Egypt lie. Haven't been to Alex and Luxor though. The pyramids are an hour's drive from downtown Cairo. I suggest u go and watch the light & laser shows on the pyramids, I liked it better than my daytime visit. Must be very hot there now! I went to see the national museum also, the Grand Bazaar (very good shopping spree)and the old coptic churches

The pyramids laser and light show plus the Nile River cruise. You can learn to belly dance on the cruise and show it to us when you return. :)

If you like old photos you must go to the Lehnert and Landrock shop. Look up L and L on the web to see what I'm talking about and if you like it.
