Dubai police bans car parades for National Day
Qatar's culture and heritage has formed the bedrock of its modern society, its social warmth provides the foundation for the country's bottomless hospitality, and its music and handicrafts are the inspiration of modern artists and artisans.
The government, encouraged by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani and HH Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, has embarked on a multifaceted approach to preserving the culture and heritage of the country.
The bustle and vitality of the old souqs has been recreated in Souq Waqif amidst buildings featuring traditional architecture. There you will find handicrafts on display as well as traditional foods, fabrics and art. Young Qataris are being encouraged to set up businesses promoting old crafts and traditions.
Qatar Foundation (QF), chaired by HH Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, promotes cultural richness and preservation of the country's heritage. Libraries, magnificent collections of Arabic writings, calligraphy and art, are all being made available for research and public appreciation through QF, the Qatar Museums Authority, and the National Council for Culture, Heritage and the Arts.
Westbay was full of decorated cars yesterday untial 2 plus AM. Love to see.
lets not forget what happened a few years ago when a prominent QLer posted her version of the traffic chaos on National Day which was taken out of contest and she had to endure a lot of aggravation both online and offline.
So only 24 accidents in two days? Sounds like an improvement in terms of traffic safety in Qatar;)
But now seriously. Happygolucky is right. Don't ban, just make sure it doesn't harm those who want to avoid it.
The way I see it, they're killing off tradition for modernazition but then again, that is what Dubai has been trying to achieve for the past decade; to be a local entertainment hub in the Mid-East.
IMO that isnt good for the locals as I think they enjoy doing so. Instead they could have alloted a time and route for it and communicate it widelly to the public so that people who dont want to be stuck can avoid those routes at those times.
A bit over the top. Would be better to confiscate the cars and scrap them if they drove recklessly..
Same Would Happen Here...(Mark My Words)
It would certainly solve some of the traffic problems.
