Dropped and Abandoned

I have arrived in Doha to work however I have found that my company is lacking in the preperations department.  My company is utilizing a sponsorship corporation to make arrangements yet they have been woefully inadequate.  I am hoping that a western ENGLISH speaking ex-pat may be able to assist me in a few minor details.

1) I need a power strip with universal outlets to allow me to plug in all my 2 prong dual voltage US spec devices.  I have tried many shops yet due to me being english speaking only I have recieved many stupid looks to include those from my non-english speaking sponsors.  I truly hope someone has found these as my computer will be dead quite soon.

2) Are they any good western populated and safe housing complex's on the west side of town near Salwa RD.  As I will be working at west of the Industrial Area the commute from in the city (Al Saad currently)  If anyonje has suggestions or knows a good realtor familiar with the rental market please inform me.

 3) I would like also to find a maid to clean a couple of times a week if someone knows of a good agency.

As  stated above my computer is about to die and my internet access is limited to Starbucks, so if you speak clear english and can PLEASE help me I feel quite abandoned at this point and am in dire need of assistance!

My mobile is 5540629

Thanks for your support

Thanks to all who gave replies. I sincerely appreciate all the help I recieved through this site. I have been able to take care of my immediate concerns. I still need to look for a cleaner to come by the flat occasionally but I think I can live sweeping my own place. As for Satrbucks, I do not like coffee however from having traveled many places in the world Starbucks almost always has free internet access. I was in need of internet so I found a place I knew would have it. Now I know that the Internet cafe is just opposite on Salwa Rd as well.

Thanks again to all who helped.

1. You should be able to find your adapter at either Lulu or Carrefour. Both my husband and I use our NA laptops without any trouble.

2. All housing is safe in Qatar. This city is very safe in general. If there are some specific concerns we could address, please let us know.

3. There are lots of housekeeping companies in Qatar. You may want to pick up a copy of the Marhaba book (sold at most grocery stores). It is a general guide for the city with lots of good contact numbers. (I am currently on leave and don't a cleaner -perhaps somebody else could chime in and provide a contact number of their housekeeper).

I hope all of your questions have been answered. Let us know if you require any further assistance. Many of us have felt "dropped and abandoned" once we arrived. So let us know if we can help.

Cheers.

Definitely drinking half a gallon of hot brown water out of plastic or paper cup is not a way to drink coffee. There is only one way to prepare good espresso, and you know it when you get it.

All the discussions about sorts of coffee by americans are just hilarious, because no matter what coffee they take, the output is... right half a gallon hot brown water with no taste, out of paper cup.

Coffee

How many kinds of cafe beans are in this planet?

Which is the best way to brew cafe?

I have to disagree with Munoschick is not Florida because of the latino community is Seattle, Washigton. Best cafe drinking place in the US.

Munozchick: The only place in the states where Starbucks sells decent coffee is Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area. They have to, otherwise they will be out of business in Florida.

I think I may be the only American that hates Starbucks.

Munozchick - he has to find a grocery store first. Remember, he's American. So far he was able to find only Starbucks :)

Tyler- you can use a 3 prong adapter...the top or bottom of it will take the U.S. style plugs.

1. Carrefour or any other supermarket. Plenty of them.

3. There are no maids. Men do the cleaning.
