We got a live in through an agency, and she requested a salary of QR 600 per month. It cost us about 5500 to bring her but it included everything (tickets, visa, POA fees) and we got her first 2 months salary paid.

The agency told us we are required to send her home once every 2 years for at least 3 weeks. She occasionally askd for Friday off.

Does your housemaid live with you? Do you sponsor her? This makes a huge difference.

in the past my husband used to get like 7 days eid hols.

But i think we calculate this time he will be only getting 5 days including weekend.

right you are novita. so many names - i forget sometimes.

how many days is the EID? 3? 5? we were letting her go for that, but wondering about the rest. we'll figure it out.

we're pretty happy watching our daughter on our own for the weekend.

...what's the harm in letting them go and celebrate it!

Also, Novi's right 2 days a week is extremely generous!

withnail ... me think you give your housemaid more than usual deals. She should appreciate you and your missus.

i never heard 2 days a week off for housemaid ... i knows once a week is normal.

Say 'hi' to her and your little one from me pls ... X

@withnail, no they don't get Eid break. They're especially needed during Eid since it's a huge gathering with children and a feast.

Obviously they don't work as much though.

14 days paid leave per year and 1 day off per week.

ours is muslim so i figures EID would be a must.

not sure how much more we should offer, which is why i am here. housemaids can be replaced, but when a nanny is good with your child, that's something that is worth paying for.

although I do give them a day off a week, the live in workers hardly ever take it! Because they know we are lost without them.

So naturally when they ask for a couple of days we gladly give it to them.

Those that live with their families do take Friday's off though.

If they are muslim, eid would be an important day for them.

By Withnail• 25 Aug 2008 12:13

so for the ones giving a month off, or 2 weeks here and there, is that in addition to the days off for the EID breaks?

ours does not work friday and saturday. but i want to make sure we treat her right so we are looking at what else is fair.

...as giving them extra when they go home!

Not surprsingly, they work extremely hard and always come back!

Yes, we also usually give them money and some extra gifts for the family.

she gets a day off a week and now and then she'll get 2-3weeks vacation (we'll pay for her ticket to go back)
