That many bathrooms....

“Ikea Qatar store features more than 40 local adaptations, including 19-room settings and three majlises,” John Kersten, managing director, Ikea – UAE, Qatar, Egypt and Oman, explained.
Intensive market research was undertaken by Al Futtaim group, which manages Ikea in the region, to adapt the Qatar store as close to the country as possible.
“We visited 50 houses in Qatar in order to understand how they are furnished,” recalled Kersten.
The Ikea team found that houses in Qatar generally have a bathroom for each bedroom, whereas in Europe, a house will have only one bathroom, irrespective of the number of bedrooms.
“So, each of the five ‘bedrooms’ we have displayed at Ikea Qatar store have separate ‘bathrooms.’

WOW normally one bathroom is all we got in the average home where i am from.
Now We have 2 and there is only 2 of us....

What to do Yanni.....
Make one his and other hers.......

these EU folks don't sh*t and shower as much as the rest of us, so they don't need more than one bathroom/ toilet :-P

yeah most westerners dont have large families. Either its cost control or the ladies out there are getting infertile which we could blame on climate changes out there

brit...that then sums up things I guess and basically is not about the size of the family or whether one knows to control the size of the family....:)

The main reasons are cost space and practicality. UK has very strict rules for building because of green belt and zoning laws. So space is at a premium.

UK...do the Housing Associations limit the no. of bathrooms to one no. for the property to be build as a policy for extending the finances or it is a cost saving measure by the buyer itself to limit the nos.

Clarification to above may put things in place I guess.

And nah, not necessarily we need to take more showers... say for example, I am in Bangalore and the weather there is comfortable the entire year so generally dont need more than one shower a day.

By GodFather.• 12 Mar 2013 12:09

but HGL you don't have any kids that I am aware of..:)

There also a major difference in how the houses in Europe are built and who finances them. Plus the weather conditions.

Most of the Houses in Europe are funded by Housing Associations (mostly funded by government) or private developers funded by banks.

Where as most of the Urbanites of India build their own homes? or buy from private developers unless you are living in the Government quarters!

Plus India is a hot country so you take need more showers then the cold countries of Europe..:) Just a thought?

UK...u missed "... when talking at par terms"...by which I meant not to consider the rural folks (the mention of urbanites must have otherwise taken care of it) or the slum dwellers. Was talking of people like me generally and I dont consider myself as the wealthy middle class...:)

Not sure about Eastern Europe, but in Western Europe and Britain particularly, the average family size is decreasing. Last figures showed that the average children per household had fallen to around 1.9 from 2.4 about a decade previously.

As far as bathrooms are concerned, the norm is 1 bathroom for a 2/3 bedroomed house.

HGL so we saying all the slums of Bombay have an attached bath room.

Its only the wealthy middle class that probably can have bigger homes as still over more than half of the Indian population still lives in rural India you cant compare the few wealthy middle class with the Europeans.

As far of the comment form Good Old Joe. I think there are more Indian bachelors here than the Western ones.

Wow...today noon only I saw a family searching for house in Brussels.... Country house had 5 bedrooms three bathrooms and a typical European house was having four bedrooms one bathroom. :)

I generally hear Europeans having 3 kids whereas most of urbanites in India now have one or at best two kids. Guess when talking at par terms we Indians atleast have come to understand the meaning of controlling population and doing so quite well. But still our houses/ apts consist of as many bathrooms as there are bedrooms...:) And yes we do have maids too (sometimes a fleet of them, depends) and if they are live in they would have their own bed room with attached bathroom.

Then do this europeans suddenly have large families when they get to Qatar or is it that the family stays back home in Europe while the guy has a mistress or two out here

The Ikea team found that houses in Qatar and Asia generally have a bathroom for each bedroom, whereas in Europe, a house will have only one bathroom, irrespective of the number of bedrooms........this seems to tell a lot about the high living standards in Europe

so who is messing with me?

and yes, back in my country, only wealthy people can afford to have more then 2 bathrooms.

Back Home Traditional Victorian Houses in London (when I say Victorian, it means built during the Rein of Queen Victoria so pretty old) The bog used to be outside the house and people used to bathe in the Tin bath in the front rooms.

But over the years these house have now been modified and there is mostly one bath room/ toilet in the house now!

It is quite common back home also to have a bathroom with every bedroom except that the one meant for guests in not attached to the guest bedroom but is outside so as to be made more accesible to even a casual visitor(s).
