Aparently Marco Polo on his travels discovered a new fabric from GERMANY!

Perhaps MD can enlighten me, but I don't believe Herr Polo actually went to Germany ................. OR DID HE ?

Venice was a large trading center on the Mediterranean, and his family was in the business of trading with other countries. Both his father and his uncle were merchants who had traveled far.Marco Polo was allowed to go along.

" Returned home to Venice his father company continued its activities and Marco soon became a wealthy merchant."

"The great Kublai Khan orders junks to be fitted out for the expedition. He gives the Italians messages of goodwill to be delivered to the pope and the kings of Spain, France and England."

He brought back the secrets of gunpowder, the compass, printing or noodles.

We cannot do independent research into Marco Polo's life, because there are no newspaper files or people to interview...:(

It is possible, britex:

"According to one authority, the Polo family were great nobles originating on the coast of Dalmatia. Niccolo and Maffeo had established a trading outpost on the island of Curzola, off the coast of Dalmatia; it is not certain whether Marco Polo was born there or in Venice in 1254."

From his trading outpost he went in almost all European countries for business.

Today you can find Hotel Marco Polo in Munster, Hamburg and Stuttgart/Germany.
