The Diplomatic club
I'm looking for a sports club to join but everywhere I visit (Four seasons, Inter Con, Doha Golf Club etc) I'm told their full and have a waiting list longer than a doll line in sunny Slough! I did here a rumour though that the Diplo club was opening up to us mere mortals. Any substance to this and does aybody know what they're rates might be? The whole club thing has fast become something of a priority on my list of to do's. I'll go crazy if I can't fill the boredom gap with some activity.
i hope i will let you feel cool cos i have a member ship at Inter Con i wold like to sale it 5500q.r
its 6 month start from 21-11-2008 issued 21-may-2009

Hey Dweller. Like that idea, but doubt if the management will accept. Fees have risen dramatically in the past year and latest edict is that the personal trainers can only train members of their own sex ...the guy (South African) is excellent, but the woman (Ukranian) is worse than useless, except all the Arab guys like her because she wears really tight clothes.
Hear that Intercontinental is good. Many people speak highly of Ramada but no beach. Sheraton also rated. Ritz Carlton has very flash facilities but more look than anything, plus no beach.
The Ramada introduced a similar rule at one time (bikinis not allowed). The brazilian members at the time got round it by sewing a cotton thread from the top to the bottom creating a one piece swim suit.
which are the good clubs for families ?And what are joining memberships.Anyone with any clues ?
Have been a member of the Dip Club since 2005. Started out well and really felt like somewhere to escape to on weekends, but has changed considerably in the past 12 months.
Far more Arabic members, large functions on the terrace overlooking the beach so quite uncomfortable for members who use that area, and the arrival of a mosque next to the recreation centre (complete with calls for prayer).
Also had sudden rule changes with singlets (tank tops) no longer allowed in the gym, and just the other week a directive that women may no longer wear two piece bathing suits.
Despite many members complaining to the management about these rules which have just been introduced without any consultation, nothing has been done. Many western members VERY unhappy and talking of going elsewhere ...so beware if you are thinking of joining as one wonders what the next limitation will be.
I believe it is the Doha Club that is closing (in December) not the Diplomatic Club.
When we joined the Diplomatic Club (as mere mortals!!)in May the yearly membership was Single Male 5,500, Single Female 4,000, Couple 6,500 and Family 8,000. You can join for just six months (for slightly more than half yearly rate) if you don't want to commit for full year straight off. Bear in mind if you are looking for a club with a sports type bar for after game drink, this may not suit!!
Golds Gym is quite good, you will have no problems joining.
Its on D ring near Lulu hypermarket (towards airport).
May actually be cheaper to rent an apartment in a block with a pool and a gym in it!
Dip club annual membersgip for males is 8K
For females i think it was 6.5K
For couples its 10K
5.5K is certainly cheaper than the places I've already been to. I'll check it out. I've put my name on the Four seasons waiting list so we'll see how that goes. Cheers.
In the meantime, I may have to resort to using the gym at Garvey's or something. Not ideal, but at least my lack of definition after this last month's inactivity won't be out of place at that quasi-colonial Britcamp!
Rule Brittania whot whot! LMAO
all clubs do annual memberships, so be sure to apply for 2007 membership anyway.
you're unlikely to have much luck for this year as they all have a limit on membership numbers, so are closed for 2006.
Dip Club membership is around 5.5K.
good luck!
