DFI to train filmmakers on pearl fishing

Four aspiring filmmakers will be given the chance to shoot a documentary about an important part of Qatar’s history this week, as they take to the seas to film the inaugural pearl diving competition.

The recently launched Doha Film Institute (DFI) have organised a workshop for the students, who will be trained by Al Jazeera’s veteran documentary maker Omar Khalifa.

The DFI which was launched at Cannes Film Festival, was founded by Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani to support the local and regional development of film education, financing and production, and organises the Doha Tribeca Film Festival.
