Well I love being able to go to City Center and park stress free. But the thing is, even though I can park nice and easy these days, I see no difference in the number of people inside the mall. Now why do you think that is?

Villagio is wider, nicer, newer and cleaner mall with free parking! If it wasn't too far I would have visited it always!

This paid parking scheme is really good for the shoppers but not too good for the tenants. I asked one friend sales lady working there, sha said that sales has dropped considerably after the implemetation of paid parking. As a consequence shops may closed or increase their prices. The paid parking scheme is a good idea but they should adjust downwards the parking fee. There's a lot of malls here in Qatar, maybe people just avoid visiting City Center.

Interesting piont, mary.   I remember struggling to get a park there at 2pm during the week and having to give up.  Just shows points to the poor planning in Doha, when developers were allowed to build all these 30 storey office towers without providing enough staff parking! Either that or people are happy to spend 30 minutes driving across town to save a couple of riyals on parking! Perhaps some people have a lot more time on their hands than I do.   Maybe we will also start to see the trend in Dubai where the valet parking is only free when you spend over 100 dirhams in the hotel on food or drinks.  Or paid parking at Hamad Hospitals? Or parking meters along the corniche!

Goes to show how many non-shoppers were using parking spaces before. As for fewer shoppers - how many were genuine shoppers before?

Or were there a lot of loiterers? I'm sure the new fees have had some impact on those who shop there - but were they the types of customers that City Centre has targeted?  In other words, is City Centre looking at getting as many people in as possible, no matter what they might (or might not) spend?  Or are they trying to make it easier for those who want to spend and are willing to spend $x?  All part of the marketing mix - and it will be interesting to see how it all rolls out.

You will have to pay for public toilets in malls and cornich. Same as in Europe. I know that you think i am kidding, but it is for real.

I heard that bachelors will be allowed to enter only when paying entrance fees. They get a ticket when they enter and have to show it when they leave. 1 hr will be 25 riyals. This is not a rumor. You will see:)

this will force them to bring down the fee price.

I think they should charge some fee to enter the city center mall too. And it will be better if they install toll plaza at intervals of 50m inside the CC. And the shopkeepers can charge 5QR entry fee at the shop entrance too. And soon the CC will become DM or "Deserted Mall".

You have taken photos day time on normal working day ie wednesday. If you visit on weekends, still there is lots of troubles finding parking, as I experienced once on friday evening, I was roaming around to for almost 25 minutes to find parking space.

I think shoppers get wiser.., they just let their drivers to drop them off and pick them up afterwards, or just simply go by karwa :P

It would be advantageous to them if they reduce the rates...the revenue could be maximised and help the individuals as well.
