Deposit swallowed by CIS Qatar

we moved to qatar in August 2010. Before we came to qatar we got a place for our daughter at Compass international school for pre schooling. When we came to qatar we realised that they we over charging and there are better school for half of the fees. So before school started in september we informed them that our daughter will no longer be joining their school.

They refused to refund our deposit of 3000+ QR. Is this acceptable? Is there anyway we can get our deposit back...They can't argue because of us they lost a chance to offer another student a place because they also opened another branch recetly and they are charging 60000+ for even pre school students which is double compared to other British schools.

Please advice this....

A country where education is a business is surely undeveloped. The fees in the European Union are between 15.000 and 50.000 QAR per year for UNIVERSITIES.

Cambridege university is only charging around 60000 QR for undergraduates..

why are these people charging the same amount for kids to play and do drawings?

I think qatar companies and the governments have to do something about these money grabbers and cheaters...

You paid a registration fee to get a place in the school. You don't take it, registration fees are lost. Same in every school in Qatar. It is NOT a refundable deposit.

What research did you do before accepting a place? While there may be cheaper schools - what has that to do with anything?

I can get my hair cut at a well known saloon for hundreds of riyal or go to the one around the corner for a tenth of the price.

Did you read your agreement/application - if the deposit is forfeit legally in the terms and conditions you have no complaint.

opening another branch doesn't mean that they are good...its business...So many schools have more than one branch...
