Though crying is not necessarily always a bad thing. It softens one's heart and makes us more sensitive beings. Of course moderation is the key..and being able to cry for the sake of others,feeling pain knowing they are suffering, is always more admirable than just one who weeps for their own losses and trials.

Smiling on the other hand is a virtue too..and again being able to bring happiness to another, and spread kindness,love and good feelings by our smiles sure beats a person who smiles simply with self satisfaction and pride.
