"Couples in Qatar.."

Hi everyone...I have a few questions in my mind before I decide to work in Qatar...actually, I have no idea on how life and things are there in Qatar. Through this forum, I am hopeful that you could help me in deciding. Here goes my question...in Qatar, is it allowed to share a room/apartment with your fiancee/girlfriend? Because as far as I know, in some arab countries this is prohibited and they are very strict about it. This concerns me alot because we both have opportunities to work there. We just don't want to get into something that we don't know anything about. Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with this scenario? Thank you very much.

I know it's illegal, and I accept local cultural values...by the way I even think of trying to fast this Ramadan, at least as long as I can... we will see how far can I get..lol...

I was just wondering how this story ended up.. Did she leave a country? Or did they get married? or the problem was solved somehow else?

And yeah, you are right, it very much depends on who you know! Actaully all your life in here depends a lot on who you know..

It depends qatarisun on who you piss off and who knows.

The woman was sacked.

I think some nationalities are more vunerable but Westerners are not immune.

Polygamy is illegal in many countries and a lot of people would find it hard to live next door to someone with multiple wives in the West.

You are in Qatar, be discrete don't flaunt, you are going against cultural values.

a lot of people without any relations between them are sharing accommodation here. Let's say , in villa 2 males and 2 females stay (each one in his/her own room) under the same roof.. it is just a Real Estate situation in Qatar - sometimes you grab whatever you can find, not whatever the law is or your preferences are...So just be discrete, and the main thing - do not piss off anybody.. and you will be ok...

question to Oryx .. you said: it depends on your nationality, and then you gave an example of western couple having troubles.. So as I understand if you are westerns you may get in trouble.. and what nationality wouldn't have a problem? .. and by the way how this western couple's issue has been solved? Was it a Happy End?

I think I should also add that it also depends on how much your neighbours care about who gets in & out of your house!

It depends on:

a) who you are working for and the attitude of your sponsor

b) who grasses you up and complains

c) your nationality

d) with whom you are doing the deed

in conclusion if you piss someone off they could go an tell tales and get you into trouble.

i have know of a western couples having issues because they were not discrete and the sponsor did not approve

It’s forbidden by law but people do it anyway, just be discrete about it.

Anyways Bats, this topic has been discussed many times, try and do a search.
